Big name like Subhash Ghai and a small film like Joggers Park !! A banner like Mukta Arts Ltd., which is reputed for it's
extravagant offerings (Saudagar, Khalnayak, Taal) venturing into a small film like Joggers Park does arouse curiosity. Joggers
Park is a film named after a famous hangout park in Mumbai that is visited by common men and celebrities alike !! How
people meet and share their small nitty grittys about life? How the relationships are formed (and broken) there? How is there
an impact on people's lives for whom this park is a routine? How does a relationship built between a girl played by Perizaad
Zorabian (Bollywood Calling) and a middle aged person Victor Banerjee (Bhoot)? This is what is told in this experimental film
by Anant Balani (Pathar Ke Phool - Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon). Tabun Sutradhar composes the music, which is though
experimental, is still enjoyable !!
First things first - a unique feature about this album is that in beginning only the CD has been released in the market. And
even that can't copied into the hard disk of your computer or burnt as an MP3 into another disk. Even the cassettes will also
hit the market once the CDs are sold out. All this has been done to control piracy. A good initiative this one, it is to be seen
how many music companies follow suit !!
Ok, so you spend Rs 150/- odd on a CD and think whether it would be worth it. So here we go !!
'Ishq Hota Nahi..Sabhi Ke Liye' - so say Adnan Sami and Zameer Kazmi (who writes the lyrics). Adnan Sami is somewhat not
at his best in this number as his vocals sound to be a bit subdued. His familiar variations are certainly present but the number
is not near to his other hits. Or probably we are used to hear his full throated vocals in most of his numbers (Kabhi Nahi..,
Tera Chehra, Mehbooba...) From his only single for the entire album, you certainly expected more !!
'Kabhi Pa Liya' is a song about life sung in an inimitable style by Usha Uthup. Written by Subhash Ghai himself, it also falls in
an average category and one starts getting a feeling that probably this album too is a bit routine. But then the ghazal king
Jagjit Singh saab enters and takes you to the world of of romantica !! Smooth flowing ghazal 'Badi Naazuk Hai' catches your
attention immediately and you get a reason to smile for your choice of 'Joggers Park'. A very good track written by Zameer
Kazmi, you just wish to put the number in repeat mode and listen to it again and again. Another great number by Jagjit saab
for a movie after 'Koyi Fariyaad' from Tum Bin !!
Next comes the title track 'Joggers Park' and you actually feel like freaking out. Such is the rhythm of this 'Hinglish' number
(which appears in two versions) about life, relationships and moments at this 'Park' that you are bound to tap your feet and
sing along. Usha Uthup is in excellent form here and the lyrics by Neisha, Usha Uthup (for English) and Subhash Ghai (for
Hindi) convey the right mood throughout. English version of 'Kabhi Pa Liya' is presented as 'Oh My Heart', which has a far
better impact (both in terms of singing and content) than the hindi version. Usha Uthup is in her elements here and you know
why she has sang the maximum numbers in this album !!
One true filmi number in this 'otherwise different' album is 'Habba Habba Hui' by Asha ji. A fun song with an Arabian touch, it
has the lyrics (by Sameer) about life and love. The only speedbreaker in this overall breezy album is 'Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne De'
by Sudesh Bhonsle. He does mimicry on the original hit of the 50s. Do not know whether it is intentional or by chance but the
number is pretty tasteless. The intermittent rap and reggae try to make the number look hep, but doesn't bear any fruits and
is best forgotten !! The album ends with the instrumentals of 'Ishq Hota Nahi' and 'Joggers Park' (as Jenny's theme - after the
name of the lead protagonist).
Joggers Park is a true cross over album which though has a restricted market, still manages to make a start at least !! A first
of it's kind, the movie makes a new beginning for the big production houses to get into a different cinema !!
