For the starters, Dil Ka Rishta, that has Aishwarya
Rai in a key role is more or less a family outing.
Why? Because it is
produced by Ash's brother Aditya Rai in partnership
with Shabbir Boxwala and scripted by her mother Vrinda
Rai. It is
commendable to watch Ash, who is very near to reaching
the top after Oscar entrant Devdas, work with lesser
established
Arjun Rampal. (She has done it before with Chandrachur
Singh in Josh !!) Hope we are not accused of spilling
the beans, but
then DKR also stars Priyanshu Chatterjee, Isha Kopikar
and Lisa Ray in important roles !!! So this makes Ash
the senior most
in the cast of mainly newcomers.
Nadeem Shravan
compose for one more flick about 'HEART' after Dil Hai
Tumhaara. Sameer
writes. Naresh Malhotra, who started his career with
mushy Yeh Dillagi and followed it up with actioners
like Achaanak and
Kranti comes back full circle with a romantic drama
Dil Ka Rishta. Box office hasn't been very kind to
Naresh Molhatra off late
with Kranti proving to be a disaster. It has to to be
seen whether DKR fares any better !!!
Title song 'Dil Ka Rishta' is featured in 4 versions -
the main song, sad version, 'Haste Suraj Ki' and
'Kitna Majboor Ho Gaya
Hoon Main'. The number is highly influenced by the
earlier style of composition of Nadeem Shravan when
they had just entered
the industry. Sung by Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and
Kumar Sanu, it makes for a good mushy number. Lyrics
are typically
Sameer. The sad version by Babul Supriyo and Nadeem
Shravan's protegee` Sarika Kapoor isn't 'sad' in true
terms as the
tempo of the number is still the same as the main
version and it doesn't slacken. Ya, but the version by
Kumar sanu - 'Kitna
Majboor Ho Gaya Hoon Main' is indeed sad and is very
situational. Ditto is 'Haste Suraj Ki' by Udit Narayan
which is again
situational.
'Saajan Saajan' is a qawalli which is again featured
twice. The one which whose promo is on the air is sung
by Alka Yagnik,
Kumar Sanu and Sapna Awasthi. It starts off with a
qawalli featured on a dancer but later Aishwarya takes
over. Though Alka
Yagnik is good in this catchy number, it may not
become a trendsetter or set the screen on fire. Also
it may not be the next
landmark for Nadeem Shravan or Sameer, but still it
may just convey the moods and emotions of the
situation in the storyline.
Same number is also sung by Jaspinder Narula and one
wonders whether just one or both the versions will
really make it to the
theatres as there isn't anything extraordinary about
it !!!
'Haye Dil' and 'Dil Chura Le' are the two romantic
duets by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu, both of which are
above average.
Again they have the tried and tested tunes. Gone are
the days when a girl used to be called as a 'Chaand Ka
Tukda'. In 'Dil
Chura Le', it's not the girl but the guy who is
compared to a 'chaand sa chehra' !!! Now this makes up
for an interesting hearing.
'Haye Dil' has the girl wooing a guy with something
like 'Haye Dil...Kab Ho Jaayega Tere Kaabil, Mera
Dil'. Sickkkkkk !!!
Main attraction of DKR is a true blue item number -
'Dayya Dayya Dayya Re' sung by Alka Yagnik. Industry
is abuzz with the
rumour that earlier Isha Kopikar was supposed to do
this number but then Ash was roped in to dance to its
tunes. Lyrics are
nothing great again, but its the dance steps that
attract attention. Nevertheless Ash does her part well
(though this item
number is mainly aimed at a particular section of the
audience.)
DKR is not a great album by any standards. Neither
does it have any excellent compositions that make it
as a MUST BUY
kind. But then ask yourself one question - How many
MUST BUY albums have you actually been buying for a
past few
months? DKR is an OK album which can be listened to
for a few times and then forgotten !!!
