Ramsay brothers go BIG with Dhundh. After producing and directing millions of C grade horror flicks in the entire 80's with the likes of Deepak Parashar, Satish Shah, Jasmine, Hemant Birje etc., they make a comeback of sorts with an A-Grade project Dhundh that marks the debut of Amar Upadhyay, the adorable Mihir of Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The same Amar, who was born again after Mihir died in the soap !! The 'musical mystery' directed by Shyam Ramsey also marks the debut of Divya Palat, a model, who has been waiting in the wings for quite some time now. Aditi Gowatrikar gets one more chance to displays her acting skills (?) after a dismal show in 16 December and box-office washout Soch. Apoorva Agnihotri makes another attempt with show-biz after reasonable performances in Pardes, Pyaar Koyi Khel Nahi and Kasoor. A 'mystery man' in a long black overcoat (mercifully without a hat !!) plays the possible horror/mystery angle in Dhundh which has music by Viju Sha and lyri cs by Ibrahim Ashq (of Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai fame !!), Rakesh Mishra and Chandrashekhar Rajit.
Viju Sha gets into the Gupt jingle mode of the title song 'Yaha Waha Dhuan Dhuan' with 'Aas Paas' in Dhundh. Written by Ibrahim Ashq and sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Shaan independently as solos, (this trend of singing the same song twice by the lead singers has become so common now, isn't it???), is fairly OK. Though nowhere near the haunting 'Yaha Waha...', it does has sparkles of Viju Sha's mastery of handling a number of instruments in an orchestra. A theme song of the movie, it should again be a musical piece which go along the rolling of titles or as a background piece on some chilly moments.
'Dilbar Mera Aaya' sung by Udit Narayan and Sunidhi Chauhan is the most enjoyable number in the movie. Choreograph it on a Hrithik Roshan or a Akshay Kumar and you have a HIT in hand. But since it has been picturised on a not-so-saleable star cast, it may need some real pushing to get into the chart-busters list. 'Mehki Mehki Zulfon Mein Jadoo' is a typical 'barsaat-ki-ek-raat-ki-situation-waala' song by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik that has the lead players getting into the 'you-know-what' mood !! An ideal diet for the front-seat wallahs, it has Aditi sizzling with her body act. But what's more fun to watch is Amar who makes a turnaround by wearing short shirts and shaking a leg or two with his gal !! What a turnaround from a sweet-innocent-unselfish Mihir !!
'Samjhona' by Abhijeet and Madhushree is a boring song which is some saga about 'love-shuv'. More surprising to see Abhijeet doing this number because he is one singer who time and again claims to be doing only selective work !! No Abhijeet, you have been doing much better work in your earlier days !!! And if this not enough (the tale of 'TRY-TO-UNDERSTAND' and all), the boredom returns with Poonam Bhatia's rendering of 'Samjha Nahin'. Practically the same composition, it seems to be begin where 'Samjhona' ends. Probably to accommodate both the singing ladies, the composer went ahead and designed two separate versions of the same song (here we go again !!)
'Kitna Intezaar' by Alka yagnik is again not so interesting song which is so-very-typical to say the least. It is about 'kitna-intezar-ke-tum-kab-aayoge' and stuff like that. Composition wise also something so-so, it is one from the Lakshmikant-Pyaarelal style of song making that used to be popular way back in the mid 80's. Interested ?? A masala dance number 'Main Albeli Main Matwaali' too completes the cycle of some below average tracks. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, it is picturised on a dancer in a villain's den or some party. It may titillate a few among the men's section but that's all. It doesn't have the necessary ingredients to really make an enjoyable masala-curry.
All spice lost, Dhundh is one among those forgettable scores from 2002 that just didn't offer us enough !!
