'When the war ends...the battle begins' - this is what that sums up Dhoop, a post Kargil drama. Inspired by a real life incident, Dhoop is a thought provoking emotional story about the family of a Captain, who had laid down his life in the love of the nation. Dhoop stars Sanjay Suri, Om Puri, Revathi (who makes a comeback as an actress after directing the highly acclaimed national award winner 'Mitr') and Gul Panag, who makes her big screen debut. Produced by Parthy Arora and Saket Bahal and directed by debutante Ashwini Chaudhary, Dhoop has meaningful lyrics by Nida Fazli and an equally complimenting music by Lalit Sen.

'Dhoop Ek Safar' - a wonderful composition that makes for a quiet hearing with minimal disturbances around. Hariharan is in complete form in this track where he is in complete command of the proceedings. Shreya Goshal sings the female version of this track and matches step by step. A quiet number which has vocals and the lyrics taking the front seat and light music in the background, it may appeal only to the lovers of some very sober and meaningful songs.

Lyrics - this is what that catches attention in 'Benaam Sa Ye Dard' by the ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh. A sad and a thought provoking number about the sadness attached with the loss of someone beloved, and how the near and dear one's cope around with the situation, it may as well brings tears to the eyes if heard in isolated surroundings. An A-class composition overall.

'Subah Se Dhoop Si', a melodious love song brings together the experienced Hariharan and the fresh Shreya together and what follows is pure simplicity. A number that follows so very well with the on screen and the off-screen image of the soft and low profile Sanjay Suri and Gul Panag. A lingering melody that just flows effortlessly, it has excellent lyrics by Nida Fazli and great music by Lalit Sen.

A poignant number with touching lyrics by Nida Fazli, 'Teri Aankhon Se Hi' is another sad song in the remembrance of the loved one. Jagjit Singh does what he is best at. There won't be a single eye, which is not moist after hearing this one. Shreya Goshal must be feeling honored that she too gets to sing the female version of the same track. Being in the great form that she is these days, she does well here as well!

Poetry is at it's best in 'Har Ek Ghar Mein Diya' rendered excellently by Jagjit Singh. A number that has deep-rooted meaning, it deserves to be listened with all concentration to be appreciated.

A qawalli by Wadali Brothers - 'Chehra Mere Yaar Ka' also finds a way in this album, which is mainly filled with slow and thoughtful numbers. The album closes with the 'Dhoop Theme' which is an instrumental.

An album in the league of 'Arth' and 'Saath Saath' (Yes, we are serious!), Dhoop is a classy score that would be appreciated by a niche` audience. A massive commercial success for such an album is a remote possibility due to its limited scope and near-to-negligible publicity. Not many are in fact aware that a movie called Dhoop is soon to be released and music has already hit the stands. Nevertheless word of mouth publicity will ensure that the lovers of meaningful lyrics, soft music and poignant vocals will welcome such a score with open arms.
