The Khan brigade never stops. Close on the heels of
Sohail Khan making his average debut with Maine Dil
Tujhko Diya arrives
Sanjay Khan's son Zayed Khan debuting with Chura Liya
Hai Tumne. The title comes directly from the ever
popular 'Chura Liya
Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko' from 'Yaadon Ki Baarat'. Esha
Deol, who has three flops behind her - Koi Mere Dil Se
Pooche, Naa Tum
Jaano Naa Hum and Kya Dil Ne Kaha features in yet
another movie that has a long title - Chura Liya Hai
Tumne (CLHT).
Sangeeth Sivan whose medium budget dark horror drama
'Sandhya' has been 'unfortunately' lying in the cans
for quite a long
time now directs this big budget 'phoren-shot' flick
produced by PFH Rave. Himesh Reshammiya, also who
scored for last
Esha starrrer KDNK, composes again while Sudhakar
Sharma, Sanjay Chhel and Jay Verma write.
Shot in Bangkok, CLHT has mainly 5 songs with a remix
of one and an instrumental of another. This makes it
in-total 7 tracks.
Shaan gets to sing 5 tracks and makes the best out of
this chance. He sings the title song 'Chura Liya Hai
Tumne' with
AlkaYagnik which is a soft number. A love song, if it
fails to impress, it is mainly due to a very weak and
predicatble
picturisation of the number. Also, though the tune is
soulful, it doesn't hold any such appeal that it can
sustain just on it's own.
Also the feel of the song is so much like a Rajesh
Roshan song, especially the start of the song and the
flute running
throughout the number. But the same combination of
Shaan and Alka deliver well with 'Don't You Love Me'.
A cute track, it has
an innocent touch and has a feel of the melody of
70's. Don't go by the title of the number - it is the
only English phrase in an
otherwise 'shudhh hindustani' number.
Well, if Himesh bhai is there, then an item number
cannot be far behind. So here comes 'Mohabbat Hai
Mirchi' by Shaan(again
!!) and Gayatri Iyer (of 'Maar Gayo - Sandhya' fame).
This number is like an instant coffee. It gets on you
immediately and is
very catchy. And you know why - because the beats are
very much the same as 'Nikamma' (Kya Dil Ne Kaha),
'Bardaasht'
(Humraaz) and 'Kambakth' (Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya). The
vocals do not seem to be of Shaan as they are very
husky but if they
are - then kudos as he does it with a remarkable
elan. Remix version also appears as a 'Hot'n'Spicy
mix', but frankly there isn't
much visible difference between the two. One can not
take away the credit from Himesh at all for the
wonderful 'Mohabbat Hai
Mirchi' but a piece of warning - he should restrain
himself from getting into a groove of composing a
similar item song movie
after movie. Admitted that this is done on the
insistence of the producers, but what after the
'janta-janardhan' loses this taste?
Look what had happened to Anand Milind after they
lifted tune after tune from Illayaraja and fed it to
the Indian audience. At
some point of time, this all fiddled away and there
was nothing left to be served !!!
'Boys are best' is a campus song, which is about the
groups of girls and boys trying to show their
superiority over the other. A
very predictable number, it is a kind of song that
just comes and goes. The composition is based on the
bearts ditto as another
campus number - 'Khud Ko Kya Samajhhti Hai' from
Khiladi which had the same feel and presentation !!
(And then our
film-wallahs claim that there movie is 'zara-hatke' !!
So is this being DIFFERENT - huh ??? )
As is the tradition these days, an instrumental as a
'Love Theme' too makes an appearance (though being so
much like the
love theme of Rajesh Roshan's 'Kaho Na Pyaa Hai'. The
only track sung by Udit Narayan and Mahalaxmi is the
weakest
number in the entire album as it just fails to rise.
It starts off on a shaky note and continues to be so
throughout !! A dull
number, it is about asking your loved one in a
confused tone - 'HEY-AM-I-LOVING-A-RIGHT-GUY' as your
'kasme' and 'vaade'
have been 'jhoote' so far so shall I keep loving you??
Answer this one !!!
In totality, Chura Liya Hai Tumne has the kind of
songs that can prevent you from going for a break when
you are watching
them in a theatre but can not force you to play them
once you are in your car or home !!!
