In the start of his career, Umesh Mehra directed the
legendary love story Sohni Mahiwal, the music of which
is still popular. Later he moved on to directing
thrillers like Jaal, Qila and the chunk of Akshay
Kumar's khiladi series like Sabse Bada Khiladi,
Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and International Khiladi. But
now he is back with a love story 'Yeh Mohabbat Hai'
(YMH) after a hiatus. It been partially shot in Russia
and marks the debut of Akanksha and Rahul Bhatt which
also stars Nasir Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Shakti Kapoor,
Gulshan Grover, Mohnish Bahl and Johnny Lever.
Akanksha looks extremely beautiful and has exotic
features. Rahul Bhatt (of TV Serial 'Henna' fame)
joins the league of chocolate faced heroes.
Umesh Mehra and Anand Raaj Anand had paired last in
Qila. The movie was a disaster but the song 'Wah Bhai
Wah' was quite popular. In 'Yeh Mohabbat Hai', the
music is of mixed variety. The title song in the album
is the best out of the total six songs which have
lyrics by Dev Kohli. It is a beautiful number and is
quite melodious. Udit Narayan gets in the 'Chaand
Chupa Badal Mein' (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) mood and
Alka Yagnik sings in her inimitable youthful style.
This is one number which would have reached the top of
the charts by now had it been picturized on one of the
Khans. But slowly and steadily, this one will make its
mark. The chorus effect of the the title song 'Yeh
Mohabbat Hai' keeps appearing in most of the six
tracks.
'Mar Gai Chokri' is based on Rajasthani folk style.
And when it is a folk song, then can Sapna Awasthi be
left behind? Sunidhi Chauhan lends her sensual vocals
again to this number. Lyrics are colourful as per the
demand of the song and front benchers will have their
hands full with one.
'Chand Saamne Hai' is sung in the inimitable Sonu
Nigam style. He sings this melodious number from heart
yet again with Alka Yagnik and the track is easily the
second best track after the melodious title song. The
lyrics are simple but sweet which speak about the
appreciation of the girl in comparison to the moon.
Hundreds of songs till date have been dedicated to
'chaand' and the girl's face, but the concept still
holds good. Three cheers to the everlasting charm of
the moon!!!
Abhijeet and Kavita Krishnamurthy pair up in 'Yeh Dil
Deewana Hai' which is a breezy number. The song is
average and is good only till it lasts. 'Chill Pill'
is a campus line song and is aimed at the college
going youth. Shaan, Harry Anand and Sunidhi Chauhan -
the youngsters on today's music scene lend their
vocals here. The lyrics do not make much of sense and
the music too isn't much inspiring. It seems more like
an advertisement jingle rather than a film song.
Overall the song is a disappointment.
'Piya Mila De' by Shubha Mudgal and Samadder is one of
those 'Judai-mein-tadapna' kind of song and is
classical based. The song is very situational and
chances are bleak that one may catch a kid on street
singing this one.
Well, if you go for 'Yeh Mohabbat Hai', then you may
listen to it for some time, have some time pass and
move on to some other album. But even if you skip it,
then it would not be the 'miss-of-the-century' for
you. The choice is yours!!!
