After Mohabbatein, Yash Chopra produces Mere Yaar Ki
Shaadi Hai that again stars beta Uday Chopra and
promising Jimmy Shergill. Apparently inspired by Julia
Roberts starrer 'My Best Friend's Wedding', MYKSH has
debutante Sanjana and Bipasha Basu playing the female
leads. Newcomers Jeet-Pritam compose the music whereas
Javed Akhtar saab takes up the mantle of writing the
lyrics. The film also marks the debut of director
Sanjay Gadhvi.
There are two notable songs that stand out - Sharara
and Jaage Jaage. Asha ji is in her Le Gayi Le Gayi
(Dil To Paagal Hai) mood in Sharara and the song is
no-doubt entertaining. She exudes the same kind of
charm and youth as ever and no words can really be
strong enough to justify her talent. Jaage Jaage is a
melodious heart warming number by the threesome of
Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. The echo
effect, whenever Jaage Jaage is sung, deserves a
mention as well. A good romantic number that should go
fine with the proceedings.
Hey !! It has been long time since we heard a
shaadi-byaah song in the style of 'Saajanji Ghar
Aaaye' - Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or a HAPPY HAPPY
ched-khaani number in the tune of 'Soni Soni Ankhiyon
Waali' - Mohabbatein !!! Come, let's combine them
both, churn a bhelpuri out of them and wow - the title
number 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai' is ready - as spicy
as ever!! And why not, when you have the tried, tested
and tasted ingredients already there then you just
need to change the plate in which you serve the dish -
that's all !! So here we have Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam
and Alka Yagnik sing for the lead players who are busy
dancing in the glossy-as-ever shaadi-ka-sets designed
for the occasion.
'Humne Suna Hai' is a situational number and unless
picturised well, may just go down flat as tunewise its
quite tasteless. It's a family number by Udit Narayan,
Alka Yagnik, Sudesh Bhonsle and Jaspinder Narula in
which the girl has selected a groom for her and her
parents, friends and siblings are inquiring her about
him. An attempt has been made to project it as a feel
good number. Sad to say, but for a change Javed saab
fails to deliver here.
'Hum Dono Jaisa' by KK and Sunidhi Chauhan is designed
as a funky campus style number and is no different
from the millions others that have been made before.
Fact is that in any other movie it could have been
passable but from a Yash Chopra film, one certainly
expects something EXCELLENT and just not good.
'Ek Ladki' sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik is
agan a feel good melodious number. Shot in (where else
but!) Switzerland, it is about a guy describing his
observations about his ladylove - her 'shokh'-ness,
her 'natkhat'-pana, her 'kiddu'-pana and whatever
observations those are associated with a young girl
with whom you fall in love.
Yet another observation - but MYKSH seems to be just
the first Yash Chopra film that doesn't feature Lata
ji !!! She is missed here - that's for sure.
Though the sales figure may be good eventually but
that's primarily because of the initial craze due to
the reputation of the music of Yash Raj flicks that
has been developed over the years. Never expected
music from the prestigious banner of Yashraj films to
be so lukewarm which has been on a steady downfall
since the days of Mohabbatein.
