Remember the 70's when the pairing of Jeetendra-Hema
Mailini entertained the masses in numerous flicks?
Well, it is the turn of their children Tusshar and Esha
to repeat the same when they come together in
Padmalaya's Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa (KDNK). Last production of
Padmalaya was Aamdani Athanni Kharcha Rupaiyya, which
was a social comedy and one of the few hits of 2001.
KDNK is directed by well known dialogue writer Sanjay
Chhel (Rangeela) whose debut as a director was in
Sanjay Dutt-Urmila starrer Khoobsurat which was a
light entertainer and a moderate hit. He writes the
lyrics as well. This is Tusshar's second release after
the mega hit Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai and should be Esha's
third relase after Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche and Naa Tum
Jaano Na Hum.
Himesh Reshamiya handles the music department of KDNK.
The title song is an apt example of how to blend
today's orchestra with yesteryear's style of music.
Though it sounds a bit reminiscent to 'Mera Ek Sapna
Hai' from Khoobsurat, this duet by Udit Narayan and
Alka Yagnik is an excellent composition that should be
popular.
'Taaza Taaza' is a jazzy number sung by Shaan and Alka
Yagnik which is about a guy proposing a girl and is
very well composed. A fun song where Shaan and Alka
Yagnik really sound like a couple in their teens. One
of the noticeable things about the songs of KDNK are
it's lyrics which stand out. They come as a fresh
piece of writing and are a bit different from the
routine 'dil vil pyaar vyaar' kinds. Check out for
'Nikamma Kiya Is Dil Ne' and you will know why? Now
have you heard something like this before !! And
in-spite of this, it doesn't sound BAD !! Full credit
should go to the composer and the lyricist for
treating the number in such a way. Shaan and Sanjivani
lend their vocals for this number that features again
in Version 2 with Jaspinder Nirula too in the fray.
The setup of 'Sajana Tere Pyar Mein' is similar to
Bole Chudiyan (K3G) - an Indian traditional song in a
feel good mode. And when Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik
sing this one, how much do we visualize Shahrukh Khan
in the frame. Hope Tusshar makes his presence felt in
this typical family number - the kind that has been
entertaining the Indian and NRI audience alike for
years. Interludes of the title song make it even
better. A thoroughly enjoyable number.
Solo - 'Zindagi, Yeh Dillagi' is a 'I AM A CARFREE GUY
AND WILL LIVE LIFE ACCORDING TO MY RULES' kind of a
number. Now this has been to be seen that whether
Tusshar's way to do this is also in the Salman Khan
style - BARE CHESTED; as this number too seems to be
choreographed with the 'gori mems' circling around
him. Again, a good number !!
'Piya, Pyaar Kyo Kiya' stands out from the
normal-usual 'WHY DID I FALL IN LOVE' kind of a
sad-sad number in the way that it has been treated in
a different fashion. It is good in beats with just the
right dose of classical dose in between. The end
result of this Kavita K. Subramaniam, Udit Narayan and
Damayani Bardai is nothing path-breaking or
chart-buster kind but definitely better than those
numbers for which the audience just move out for a
cigarette break !!
This is Himesh Reshamiya's BEST work till date. KDNK
has everything going in it's favor - the rhythm, the
melody, the romance. Title song and 'Nikamma Kiya Is
Dil Ne' stand out. A good buy.
