If there was one word to describe the star power of
Hum Kisise Kam Nahin (HKKN), it would be LETHAL. Big B,
Sanju Baba, Ajay Devgan and Ash in one frame - could a
silver screen look better than this. Afzal Khan
produces HKKN which has some interesting facts
associated with it. Everyone associated with HKKN
except for Big B, who has K3G to his credit, have not
been having a very great time. Presenter Jhamu Sugandh
delivered Filhaal, Sanjay Dutt started the year with
Pitaah, Ash's Albela was just about average, Ajay
Devgan didn't gain much with Tera Mera Sath Rahen and
director David Dhawan has a turkey behind him that
goes by the name of Kyon Kii...Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta. Some
positives that can be seen in HKKN are the return of
vintage Amitabh's style. From the promos so far, one
can see him acting the way when he was at his peak in
late 70's and early 80's. Sanjay Dutt is back in his
Vaastav getup as Munnabhai and the celluloid romance
of Ajay Devgan and Ash are revisited after Hum Dil De
Chuke Sanam which was diagrammatically opposite to
laugh riot HKKN. After playing Ash's father in
Mohabbatein, Amitabh enacts the role of her brother in
this flick.
Music by Anu Maliik is very much in Laxmikant Pyarelal
mode - especially 'Dulhe Raja', 'O Sapno Ke Saudagar'
and 'Mein Sohni Tu Mahiwal'. Do you know who is the
voice behind Amitabh in the track 'Ye Kya Ho Raha
Hai'? Your first choice would be Sudesh Bhonsle or
Amitabh himself. But believe it or faint, it is Anu
Maliik !! He does a good job although getting a bit
overboard sometimes with the 'bhaiiii' and 'haiiien'
act. The number is about Amitabh stopping the two love
birds from enjoying themselves. A fun song by Alka
Yagnik and Sonu Nigam that may not last for centuries
to come but is entertaining nevertheless.
When there is Munnabhai then there are bound to be
some tapori numbers. The two that go here are 'Kya
Kehna Mere Sher Ka' and 'Munna Mobile'. Both the
numbers are designed for a particular genre of filmi
audience and you want find the family crowds flocking
the music stores and the theatres for these numbers.
Both the numbers are strictly situational and are
nothing to cheer about. It must have required a real
convincing to Anand Bakshi sahab for writing lyrics
like 'watt lag jaaye meri, khaat lag jaaye meri' or
'munna mobile, pappu pager, raju dhakkan, hanif
hatele'. Amongst the two numbers, 'Munna Mobile' (Sonu
Nigam and Anu Maliik) is marginally better than Udit
Narayan and Vinod Rathod rendered 'Kya Kehna Mere Sher
Ka', but this is the maximum that can be said about
these.
'Dulhe Raja' from start-to-finish is Laxmikant
Pyarelal revisited. It features once as a solo by Udit
Narayan and then Alka Yagnik accompanies him in the
duet. One will really find more of this number being
played in this shaadi byaah season. A good number and
the best among the lot. Instrumental-Music Part seems
to be just following the trend of having a musical
piece in every album, and so it is here. Nothing great
about it.
Love song 'O Sapno Ke Saudagar' is the second best
number by Anuradha Paudwal and Sonu Nigam and is
lively. Again, not a number which may be having
immense staying power. An above average number. 'Mein
Sohni Tu Mahiwal' is again situational and is just
average only. Anuradha Paudwal, Sonu Nigam and Vinod
Rathod try to elevate the song by infusing life in it
but just about manage to do that.
Overall HKKN is disappointing with just 'Dulhe Raja',
'O Sapno Ke Saudagar' and 'Ye Kya Ho Raha Hai' being
somewhat average. Thank goodness that HKKN has a solo
composer and lyricist. It makes the job of a reviewer
much much easy !!!
