Badhai Ho Badhai (BHB) seems to be another HAHK, DDLJ
or K3G in making with a horde of characters in it who
come to play the FAMILY-FAMILY GAME. Apart from the
leading stars Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Keerti
Reddy, the startcast includes Amrish Puri, Farida
Jalal, Kadar Khan, Govind Namdeo, Arun Bakshi among
various other supporting actors, child artists and a
dog who resembles TUFFY of HAHK. Promos are colorful
and vibrant and make for yet another shaadi byaah
mood. Best friend Satish Kaushik directs and
co-produces this Kapoor production which is presented
by Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts. Music is by Anu Maliik
who had earlier composed for Satish Kaushik's Hum
Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hai and Javed Saab write the
lyrics.
None of the stars of BHB have been having a good time
in recent past. Anil Kapoor's Nayak didn't exactly set
box office on fire. Shilpa Shetty's career graph has
always been fluctuating and Keerti Reddy has two duds
Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya and Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat behind
her. Let's pray Badhai Ho Badhai really sets
celebration music for everyone concerned.
The title song by Udit Narayan is just OK. In fact it
is one of those rare title songs, which are
lacklustre. It narrates the ongoing proceedings in a
family where a marriage is taking place but fails to
hold interest. A DOWNER. 'Teri Zindagi Mein Pyar Hai'
features thrice (once as a duet by KK and Alka Yagnik
and then as solos by both) and we keep wondering why
is it there even once at first place. The song seems
to be a sutradhaar kind that runs throughout the
movie. One may find it too critical but then though
the song is about one big happy-happy family, it
resembles no more than an ad jingle about some
consumer product say a cooking oil or some house
paint. No Maliik saab, but yeh dil maange more!!!
'Raag Banke Pyar Chhaye' is classical in feel and soft
to ears. It is a romantic duet by Alka Yagnik and
Shaan but then that's all. It doesn't really guarantee
a blockbuster status for the music of BHB. 'Thehro
Zara' - a romantic duet by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik
brings a smile on the face for its being a simple 'n'
sweet number. Sonu Nigam gets that naughtiness of 60's
back with his Md. Rafi style of rendering. But then
neutralizes this with his 'WHERE IS THAT GIRL MADE FOR
ME' cry in 'Dil Bata Mere Dil Bata' which is similar
in composition style as 'Ye Meri Life Hai' from Hum
Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hai.
There are two typical Anu Malik fast pacy tracks
'Jogan Jogan' and 'Dil Vich Vich Rukda'. Preeti-Pinky
had so many hit numbers in their kitty but law of
averages seem to have struck them with Jogan Jogan,
which is the least impressive of them all. Preeti-Pinky sound screechy rather than their naughty sensual
self and fail to ignite the same fire as their earlier
songs. Newcomer Kunal gives them company in this so-so
number. Anuradha Sriram and Sonu Nigam sing the
mandatory punjabi pop 'Dil Vich Vich Rukda' which is
as fresh as yesterday's newspaper.
Well well, we can't exactly give badhai to Anu Maliik for this score. Movie is quoted to be a "A bouquet
of melodies full of masti, mithas and mohabbat." Sad
to say but there is a deficiency of all of these in
the music of BHB. NOT IMPRESSIVE.
