  Music Reviews
By Joginder Tuteja, July 8, 2002 - 10:19 IST

Unlimited releases of Govinda continue with Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare. So many of his movies have come and gone in recent times and so many are still in pipeline (Khullam Khulla Pyaar Kare, Waah! Tera Kya Kehna). If they are not enough, then here comes another comedy directed by Harmesh Malhotra. In fact Khullam Khulla Pyaar Kare by the same director has been lying in the cans for ages now and waiting to see the light of the day. A few years back the combo of Harmesh, Govinda, Raveena Tandon, Anand Milind and Sameer had delivered the laugh riot - Dulhe Raja. They all reunite with ASGM.

By the look of the promos, one can make out the obvious hangover of Dulhe Raja and various other flicks like Bade Miya Chote Miya, Aunty No.1, Rajaji among others in which Govinda and Raveena Tandon had come together. Locations are just the same, steps are repetitive, gestures are alike and tunes are no different.

In 2002 when the mightiest of films are falling like nine pins, one really wonders whether a small predictable kind of film like ASGM may meet some better fate.

'Gore Tan Se Sarakta Jaye' has a typical Bhojpuri tune that Anand-Milind have been churning out for centuries now. Lyrics are nothing great either and Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik and Sanjeevni just seem to be going through the motions. Kind of number that doesn't hold any real importance with the narration of the movie and can fit in anywhere - be it in the first reel or the last. Dev Kohli writes for 'Rabba O Rabba' which is again based on the folk tune - this time Punjabi. This is again a love song where the munda and kudi are singing praises about each other that how she or he is the best. Nothing exciting about this boring number where Alka Yagnik unites with Udit Narayan. And since the production values of the movie are not great either so one can't even except a lavish choreography of picturization of the number that may elevate the numbers to rise above average.

'Akkh Jo Tujhse Lag Gayi Re' by Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula is one rare number in the album that one can at least sit through. And the irony associated with this number is that it has been composed by Anand Raj Anand who is the guest composer for ASGM !!! Again a typical Govinda song which just manages to stay afloat and nothing more !!!

A definite B-Grade number in the album is 'Ladki Mud Mud Ke Maare' which has been composed solely for the front benchers in the interiors. What more can you expect from a number that has lyrics going like 'Jiske Liye Khaali Hai Mere Dil Ki Kholi' etc etc etc. Music wise too the number is no great shakes and one can't differentiate it from any other Govinda hit. Vinod Rathod who has lent his vocals for many Govinda songs sings this duet with Alka Yagnik. 'Thumko Lagake Naacho' is another horrible number that has been composed by Dilip Sen Sameer Sen and has lyrics by Nitin Raikwar. A very much forgettable number that has been sung by Sonu Nigam, Vinod Rathod and Sanjeevani.

The tracks in ASGM are of the kind where the reviewer has to really think hard when it comes to describing them. All the tracks are so similar in feel that they tend to drag towards the end and one doesn't know exactly that from where to begin and where to end. The same holds for 'O Chori Gori Gori' by Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula which is again set in Bhojpuri setup and is meant for a very select audience. Another inane number which is quite uninspiring. Oh !! So do you really expect something from a number that goes like 'Dehradun Ka Chuna Lagaya'. If you do - then well, ASGM is the album of the century for you. Can't really expect such a number to do wonders for the hindi music industry. Salim Bijnori writes for this number composed by Daboo Malik and sung by Vinod Rathod and Sunidhi Chauhan.

Well - one can't really think of a suitable comment to write as a tailpiece for this review after going through the nightmarish experience of listening to an album that goes by the name of Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare.
