Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar (YZKS) is third in the series of
women oriented films by Tanuja Chandra after Dushman
(Kajol) and Sangharsh (Preity Zinta). Though Dushman
and Sangharsh weren't any great shakes at the box
office, they were still appreciated for being
different from the cliched and conventional style of
film making. Let's hope Tanuja Chandra gets third time
lucky this time around. YZKS stars Amisha Patel who is
the hottest queen of box office after the historic
hits Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai and Gadar. In fact, after
acting in this couple of Mega Budget films, YZKS is
the first medium budget film that Amisha is starring
in. Jimmy Shergill (of Maachis and Mohabbatein fame)
plays the male lead in the movie. Daboo Malik gets his
first break as a music director for a major
production. Salim Bijnori writes for the majority of
songs with inputs from Anwar Sagar, Nasir Faraaz and
Faaiz Anwar as well.
YZKS begins with a sad number 'Dil To Kehta Hai' . The
female version is sung by Alka Yagnik and is in the
same style as 'Dil Mera Tod Diya' from Kasoor. It is
one of those songs where more than the music , the
lyrics play a major role. Check out especially the
lyrics here which go like
"tum hamein chaho ya na chaho, yeh tumhara dil hai
hum tumhe paake rahenge, yeh hamara dil hai
meri umeed koyi toota sitaara bhi nahi"
The male version is sung by Kumar Sanu and has a
slight edge over the female version.
'Aye Chand Khoobsurat' is easily the pick of the lot
and has the making of entering into the Top 5 charts
at least if not reaching the Numero Uno spot. It's a
fabulous song by Sonu Nigam and Nasir Faraaz's lyrics
add to the effect. Daboo Malik's music should get a
special mention here for the way the number has been
well crafted.
Udit Narayan has been wasted in 'Nikal Padi' which
can be easily skipped. At best, it may settle down
with the flow of the movie, but audio wise it
definitely hampers the smooth flow of the album which
otherwise has beautiful numbers like 'Haalat Naa
Poocho Dil Ki', 'Aye Chaand Khoobsoorat' and 'Ahista
Ahista'.
'Haalat Na Poocho Dil Ki' is a lilting number sung in
a trademark style by Kumar Sanu. It reminds of those
numbers that were expertly sung by him in the early
90's. 'Zamane Mein Sabhie Ko Milte Hai Ghum' is an
inspirational song and has the same kind of feel as'
Yeh Safar Bahut Hai Kathin Magar Naa Udaas Ho Mere
Humsafar' from 1942 - a love story. Hariharan and
(lyricist) Salim Bijnori do a fine job here.
Jaspinder Narula renders 'Main Kaun Hoon' that so
rightly depicts the pain experienced by the character
played by Amisha in the movie. The number speaks about
the character's search for her exact identity in this
tough world. The singer could have easily gone
overboard with this number but shows amazing control
here. Full marks to you Jaspinder.
Ahista Ahista is a product of "BY NOW FAMOUS"
combination of Sonu Nigam, Sajid Wajid and Faaiz
Anwar. Shradha Pandit's vocals are smooth in the
background. It is a soulful romantic number sung with
due expertness and makes the heart skip a beat or two.
Major highlight of the score of YZKS here are the
lyrics by Salim Bijnori, Anwar Sagar, Nasir Faraaz and
Faaiz Anwar. To sum it all, it has been an honest
effort by Daboo Malik who instead of falling into the
trap of conventional mainstream hindi movie score,
goes by his own sensibilities and delivers something
different. YZKS may not find patronage by all and
sundry but shall certainly call for appreciation by
classes who believe in quality score.
