A few years back, Kachhe Dhaage directed by Milan
Luthria starring Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan was
released which fell in the 'Road movie' genre. But it
still it had it's
fair dose of bollywood masalas. But Rajat Mukherjee
directed Road seems to be an altogether refreshing way
of film-making which if successful may be
path-breaking in
many ways.
Rajat Mukherjee - who had a year back
directed a violent love story - Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya
that had Urmila delivering one of her finest
performances. Urmila to
nahi, but there is Ram Gopal Verma's recent discovery
Antra Mali who had been relegated to second leads in
Mast and Khiladi 420 till Company happened where she
too
got appreciation in spite of heavy duty presence of
Ajay Devgan and Manisha Koirala. This is her first
solo heroine project and she reunites with her
'Company ka hero' -
Vivek Oberoi. Vivek looks dashing as ever and it is to
be seen if he can repeat the success of Company.
Sandesh Sandilya who scored a few numbers in K3G -
'You are my
Soniya', Sooraj Hua Madhdham' and a few more and
recently released Agni Varsha, composes for this Ram
Gopal Verma production. Manoj Bajpai makes a
comeback
in a RGV production in an entirely new getup and
attire. And the fourth character of the movie (as the
director Rajat Mukherjee insists) is the 'Road' itself
which plays an
integral part of the movie.
Album begins with 'Makhmali Ye Badan Ki' which
re-livens the mood of 'Sooraj Hua Madhdham' - the
difference being that while the latter was both
romantic, the former is
sensual. A bedroom song, though it has camera rolling
all over, it restricts from being vulgar and stays in
it's domain. Antara delivers enough oomph for the song
to be a
highlight of the movie and Vivek Oberoi in his half
shave is charming. Tough to believe that he is the same
guy who played a tough Chandu with so much conviction
in
Company. Sonu Nigam and Sanjeevani sing in a naughty
mood and lyrics by Khilesh Sharma are thankfully
diferent from the routine 'Dil, Ishq and Pyaar' and
inspite of this
the message is conveyed.
'Raste Raste' is en experimental song written by
Jaideep Sahni which is a fierce song and the way it is
choreographed gives and altogether different dimension
to romance!!!
The lead players seem to be more in mood of killing
each other rather than loving and is a number worth a
'dekko'. It is hard to believe that the male singer is
Vinod Rathod
and this can be termed as one of the best ever voice
modulations by him. Sunidhi Chauhan is tailor made for
this number and this is for sure that no one can else
could have
done justice to this 'powerhouse' number. Nitin
Raikwar writes and composes 'Toofan Sa' which is sung
by KK and Sunidhi Chauhan which is again a hard
hitting love song -
more poppish rather than melodious in approach.
A definite crowd puller is 'Khullam Khulla Pyaar
Kare’, which is again sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and has
Sonu Nigam in company this time. The model in this
number is a
RGV discovery and is a heart stopper. This dusly girl
gyrates with choreographer Ganesh Acharya who has
earlier also made guest appearances in 'Koi Jaaye To
Le Aaye'
with Mamta Kulkarni in Ghatak and in 'Bekaraar Dil
Bekaraar' with Govinda in Hadh Kar Di Aapne. In
Khullam Khulla he makes a full length appearance and
it is interesting
to see the way he carries himself so well in the
number. A mast number, this is going to pull crowds by
hundreds and has a potential to make its way to the
top.
Makrand Deshpande who has played number of character
roles in past like in Satya, Snip, Jungle amongst
others writes a song, probably for the first time for
a hindi movie
as 'Pehli Nazar Mein'. Mohit Chauhan and Sunidhi
Chauhan sing this number which seems to be picturized
on Manoj Bajpayee and Antra Mali. In a first few
hearings, it
seems to be a STRANGE song for the reason being that
you tend to get a bit uneasy while hearing to this
one. It haunts, it scares and doesn't make you feel
comfortable.
You can't figure out whether the girl is in love with
a person or just scared and is loving by force rather
than choice. A song to be watched out - just for the
curiosity of this.
Amar Mohile composes and sings for 'Road Rage' with
Tannishtha in company that continues in the same vein
as the rest of the songs - i.e. intense, powerful,
fearful,
violent. Sound of a Safari screeching, braking,
running fast takes you to the road and this is what
one is really waiting for. Tabbish Romani writes for
jazzy 'Road Ke Har
Mod Pe' which is sung in a firang style by Gary Lawyer
and Tannishtha. A haunting number again, it is purely
situational and audio wise is a weak link in the
album. Not a
great number audio wise.
Fierce, Powerful, Violent - a rage - this is how one
can sum up the score of Road - an altogether different
genre of movies that has not been attempted too many
times before
in hindi movie scenario.
