Suddenly relationships seem to be the IN thing. First
Ek Rishta, then Dil Ka rishta and now Rishtey.
Interestingly Rishtey was
the title that producer director Indra Kumar was very
keen to use a few years and had planned to cast Big B,
Aamir Khan and
Madhuri Dixit in the film by the same title. But the
project didn't work out and he directed Mann and
Aashiq subsequently.
Though his first four directorial ventures - Dil,
Beta, Raja, Ishq were super duper hits and when it
seemed like everything he
touched turned into gold, he came up with blooper like
Mann and even a bigger disaster called Aashiq.
He
brings together Anil
Kapoor from Beta, Karisma Kapoor from Aashiq and
Shilpa Shetty for the first time for his typical
commerical potboiler -
Rishtey. Also starring is a child artist whose
rendering of 'I Love You Papa' is heard every time
Anil ji is shown down and out.
Ashok Thakeria is the co-producer with Indra Kumar
whereas newcomer Abbas Katka makes his debut as the
lyricist. Sanjeev
Darshan who made their debut with Mann for Indra Kumar
are repeated for Rishtey. Music of Mann was HIT, let
us examine
whether Sanjeev Darshan (SD) have been able to repeat
the success.
'Har Taraf Tu Hi' is the best track of the album with
a very impressive orchestra. Full marks should go to
SD and the song
arranger Ranjit Barot for this. A 'Different' and an
'Unconventional' composition in true terms, it has
Shaan and Mahalaxmi in
wonderful touch. Lyrics by debutante Abbas are fresh
as well that heighten the intensity of the track. This
track should further
establish Shaan's way to the top of the tops. Another
sure shot popular number should be 'Deewana Deewana'
which is sung
with full josh by unstoppable Sunidhi Chauhan. A love
song, this tune is fresh as well and one should give
credit to Indra
Kumar, who has a flair for good music, for extracting
such work from SD who have been having a lean patch
with continuos
duds so far. The same track Deewana Deewana is
repeated by Udit Narayan as well but it is Sunidhi's
version which one may
like to hear again and again.
'Rishta Tera Rishta Mera' has Udit Narayan singing in
the same style as he has been doing for all Indra
Kumar movies - FULL
THROATEDLY. The song is above average but won't be on
the lips of all as it is not in true terms - ROMANTIC.
It's mainly
relationship-centric and could be between two lovers
or between parents and a child. A very short slower
version of the same
also appears as a solo by Udit Narayan. Another even
shorter version is sung for a child by Neha and it is
hardly two lines.
'Dilbar Dilbar' is an item number by Asha ji and is
again an average track. It is composed mainly to
attract audience and may
not be holding much of an importance to the movie as
'Rishta Tera Rishta Mera' and 'Har Taraf Tu Hi' do.
'Apun Ko To' by
Sunidhi Chauhan and Sanjeev Rathod is a tapori song
with a difference, what with a female taking center
stage as a tapori than
a male (as has the trend been). There is a good dose
of 'apun', 'ishtyle', 'saala', 'bedhu' and stuff alike
by lyricist Sumit and may
seem good on the movie. In all probability, the song
may be picturised on Shilpa Shetty as it suits her to
the T.
As was an Arabian tune based song, 'Kali Nagin Ke
Jaisi' in Mann, there is an undercurrent of Arabian
tune in 'Yaara Re Yaara
Re' by Sonu Nigam and Kavita Subramaniam (who is a
regular in Sanjeev Darshan's compositions) in Rishtey.
An absolute
time pass number, don't look for any great lyrics or
music in this one. Just listen to the song, enjoy it
while it is played and
then forget it later. No holding power here !! 'Apna
Bana Na Hai' and 'Tu Tu Dil Mein' are another typical
love songs by Udit
Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal. Nothing great shakes
about them, they pale in comparison to some other good
tracks in the
album as mentioned earlier.
So far the promos have been interesting enough with
Anil Kapoor always battered and bruised in his boxing
ring and Karisma
looking depressingly tense every time the camera
focuses on her. No offence meant but this kind of
beginning of promos has
raised up the curiosity level of the cine-goers.
Introduction of Shilpa Shetty in the promos has
livened up the proceedings and it
is to be seen whether Rishtey can bring the gloomy
film industry out of the doldrums.
