Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar is a light entertainer shot
in the US of A, that stars Paresh Rawal, Jimmy
Shergill and Kim Sharma. Jimmy already has Mere Yaar
Ki Shaadi Hai in the pipeline, Kim has won accolades
for her bravura performance a la Urmila Matondkar
(Pyar Tune Kya Kiya) in recently released Tumse Achcha
Kaun Hai and no words would be enough to praise Paresh
Rawal for his comic timing in Aankhen. Produced by Lal
Dadlaney and Kishore Dadlaney and directed by first
timer Rahul Dholakia, KHDBB has music by Jatin Lalit
and lyrics by Sameer.
'Deewano Ko Pata Hai' is one of the best two numbers
in KHDBB - the other being Jaane Kab Anjaane. 'Deewano
Ko Pata Hai' has it's share of romantic locations, Kim
Sharma clad in the Yash Chopra style white Salwaar
Kameez and the chocolate looks of Jimmy Shergill. A
winner all the way that has some good lyrics by Sameer
and melodious music. The instrumental of the same
appears as Life is Beautiful which has orchestra by
Manohari Singh and Richard Mithra (assistant music
directors of KHDBB) and sounds very pleasant. One can
just go on listening to this musical piece -
especially the violin.
'Jaane Kab Anjaane' is a beautiful melody by Kumar
Sanu and Kavita Krishnamurthy and is in vintage Jatin
Lalit style. Ya, we want more of such numbers from you
both. Pray, but when you are so talented then why are
we being offered some real forgettable numbers for a
long time now. Not that the album is without its share
of insipid numbers as well. Case in point being 'India
Se Aaja', which for the reasons best known to the
producers of the movie, is repeated twice in the album
- once by Adnan Sami and then by Lalit himself. The
number is the story of a young guy who has come to the
videshi-land in search of dollars, naam and kaam and
is narrating his experiences in casinos and with the
beauties. None of the singers impress and it's
surprising to hear the seasoned vocals of Adnan Sami
in such a flat fashion. Adnan is completely out of
form here and seems to be utterly disinterested in the
proceedings.
Shaan croons the okey-dokey lovey-dovey 'Aasman Se
Chand Laoon' in his typical style. All the good work
in Deewano Ko Pata Hai and Jaane Kab Anjaane is
diluted by Dhol Baje and Dikhri Amhari. The reviewer
may be accused of comparing every Gujrati 'dhol'
number with 'Dholi Taro Dho Baje' - Hum Dil De Chuke
Sanam, but that's because one tends to keep a
masterpiece in mind whenever a song is designed and
composed on a similar theme. And here too the results
are nothing different from the other songs. Means that
'Dhol Baje' is also a poor caricature of the
masterpiece and so is in one word - REJECTED. Udit
Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy help little in saving
this track.
'Dikri Amhari' by Udit Narayan and Shradha Pandit is a
family number in which the elders are approving the
marriage of their children - the guy who is a Punjabi
and the girl who is a Gujrati. A case of inter-caste
marriage. A noble idea but just a so-so composition.
The number fails to impress primarily because it's a
re-re-rehashed tune of so many earlier feel good
numbers and in the process doesn't entertain at all. A
forgettable number.
Do not expect 'Eight out of Eight' from KHDBB, be
satisfied with 3-4 good tracks and you will be a happy
and content.
