Long association of two Sanjays - Sanjay Dutt and
Sanjay Gupta continues with Kaante after Aatish, Jung
and Khauff. Kaante
is the most ambitious venture of Sanjay Dutt and
Sanjay Gupta shot entirely in the US of A with it's
entire crew from
Hollywood. Presented by Pritish Nandy Communications
Ltd. and Sharad Patel, this White Feather Films/Film
Club is
produced by Sanjay Gupta and Raju Sharad and has music
by Anand Raaj Anand. Lucky Ali and Vishal/Shekhar are
guest
composers.
Kaante is one movie that has been in news
since the time it has been launched primarily because
it is probably
the first Hindi masala movie that has a completely
international crew.
A change from routine mushy stuff and regular
Bollywood potboilers, Kaante is a story of 6 men (and
not boys!!!) who plan a
heist in a prime bank in Los Angles. 6 men who go by
the name of Big B, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Kumar
Gaurav, Licky ali
and Mahesh Manjrekar. 6 men who fear nothing. 6 men
who all have honest intentions. 6 MEN, OUT OF WHICH
ONE IS A
BETRAYER. Going by the promos, Kaante should be one
deadly flick with all men looking smashing with number
of firsts -
Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty getting a fresh new beard
done, Kumar Gaurav making his first appearance after
Mazhar's Khan
Gang, Lucky Ali facing camera after long long time,
Mahesh Manjrekar making his debut as an actor and Big
B looking classy
as ever. Base color of the movie is Bottle green
giving it an international look.
Malaika Arora and Isha Kopikar are roped in to perform
the item numbers. After Smash hit 'Khallas', Isha
seems to be treading
the same path as her seniors Raveena Tandon and Shilpa
Shetty did to get a foothold in Bollywood - do some
song and dance
numbers. Her 'Ishq Samandar' is already immensely
popular in which Sanju Baba makes a dashing entry with
his inimitable
dance steps. Music starts a bit like it did in
Raveena's nightclub number 'Yeh Raat' from Aks. And it
is really hard to believe
that the male voice in 'Ishq Samandar' is indeed by
Anand Raaj Anand himself who does an excellent job.
Sunidhi Chauhan is
the female voice in this track that has an excellent
choreography, lighting and sets. A definite crowd
puller.
Track that will be popular for weeks and weeks to be
come is definitely going to be 'Rama Re'. Although
sounding like
Shahrukh's 'Koyi Na Koyi Chahiye' from his debut flick
Deewana, it settles in it's own after a few hearings
and makes one sing
it again and again. A very catchy tune, it appears in
three versions - once as 'Rama Re' in the vocals of
Sanjay Dutt, Shaan,
Zubin, Anand Raaj Anand and Sudesh bhonsle, then as a
Thums Up remix which is a funky track remixed by
Suleiman
Merchant and als in a slower version as Socha Nahin
Tha by Shaan and Zubin. Choreographed on all the 6
lead players, Rama
Re is about the protagonists' journey to achieve their
goal and how they go ahead confidently with their
mission.
But the number which is going to bring the house down
is definitely going to be 'Chhod Na Re'. sung by
Sanjay Dutt (again),
Udit Narayan, Sudesh Bhonsle and Mahesh Manjrekar, it
also a brief narration about the basic idea of
Kaante's story by the
lead players and then starts the zippy fun filled
track.
'Dil Kya Kare', 'Yaar Mangiasi' and 'Mahi Re' are
three romantic Bollywood ishtyle tracks in this
otherwise unique album whih is
so very 'DIFERENT' from the regular soundtracks
churned one after another. But even these three tracks
stand out - the best
being 'Maahi Ve' by Sukhwinder Singh and Richa Sharma
who are unique in their own way. This well composed
song is
penned by Dev Kohli and has a punjabi touch. Sonu
Nigam croons sad love song 'Pyaar Magiasi' which is
about a guy yearning
for his lady love from GOD. A number that has to be
really relevant to the proceedings of the movie if it
has to find a place in
this action drama. 'Dil Kya Kare' is one track, which
is quite routine. A love song by Kumar Sanu and Kavita
Krishnamurthy, it
would have been a good fit in a romantic album, but in
a movie like Kaante - well NO !!!
Maut - written, composed and sung by Lucky Ali is a
very well worked upon song. A haunting situational
number, it is about
death and life. Mood of 'Maut' reminds of 'Ganda Hai'
from Company but the difference here is that while
latter is sung in a
husky way, 'Maut' is more hoarse. 'Baby Baby' by
Sunidhi Chauhan is another item after 'Ishq Samandar'
and is a definite HIT
all the way. Most probably choreographed on Malaika
Arora, this song has everything in it's favor to be a
popular masala
number, hence making Kaante a complete entertainer
comprising of just about everything.
Kaante has an
enviable assemble`
of probably first ever suited-booted robbers ever and
a great soundtrack.
