How can one forget the magnum opus blockbuster 'Nagin'
by Raj Kumar Kohli that was made years back. Starring
Sunil Dutt,
Jeetendra and Rekha in pivotal roles, it went on to
break all records of this particular genre of
'ichchadhaari naag and nagin'
stories. Remake of the same Nagin is being made as
Jaani Dushman - Ek Anokhi Kahani by the same director
who launches
his son Armaan Kohli for the third time after Aulaad
Ke Dushman and Qahar.
The number of heroes in JDEAK is
in direct
competition with the star cast of JP Dutta's under
production LOC. While LOC has been in news for it's
mammoth cast, Raj
Kumar Kohli went on to finish his biggie that too has
nine heroes in total - Sunny Deol, Sonu Nigam (who
makes his debut),
Aftab Shivdasani (who is now a multi starrer
specialist after Pyaar Ishq aur Mohabbat, Love Ke Liye
Kuch Bhi Karega and
Awara Paagal Deewana), Aditya Panscholi (God !!! When
will this talented guy really get his due !!!), Arshad
Warsi, Sharad
Kapoor, Sunil Shetty and the rip-roar-roaring Akshay
Kumar who is riding high on the success of Aankhen and
Awara Paagal
Deewana which are two of the select few hits of 2002.
Of course Armaan Kohli features in a pivotal role but
someone please
tell us who suggested this strange get up he has
acquired - as displayed in the inlay cover of the
album. Among the heroines,
Manisha Koirala and Rambha are the only recognizable
faces out of the horde of other new comers. Anand Raaj
Anand, Anand
Milind and Sandeep Chowta compose. Sameer and Dev
Kohli write.
Director Raj Kumar Kohli has maintained throughout the
producion of the movie that special effects of the
movie are it's
highlights. They are of the kinds that have never been
witnessed before in any Indian movie. This makes a
fair enough reason to
go for the movie at least. Now let's talk about the
music !!
The album begins with the nostalgic Aaja Aaja from
Nagin itself but gets in it's own soon as the number
progresses. An okay
dokay number, it may not make the music lovers dance
with the joy but should be quite haunting going with
the theme of the
movie. Anand Milind compose this number which is sung
in an ordinary way by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik.
Jaspinder
Narula and Sonu Nigam sing the mandatory punjabi track
Chal Kudiye. A punjabi number and add to it Jaspinder
- then it ought
to be zingy and foot tapping. And zingy it is !! An
entertaining number, it turns out to be a good dance
track.
There are two tracks in the album that are definite
chart busters - Roop Salona Tera Dekh Ke and Javed
Bhai So Re Le.
Composed by Punjabi number specialist Anand Raj Anand
and written by Dev Kohli, Roop Salona Tera Dekh Ke is
choreographed on Sonu Nigam and others. The number is
sung by Sonu Nigam and a horde of mainly newcomers -
Purnima,
Sanchaita, Harry Anand, Pamela Jain, Devendra Singh
and Nayan Rathod. A very good dance number, the song
should fit in
well with the movie. Add to it Sonu Nigam and it
should become one of the highlights of the movie.
'Javed Bhai' is of the same
genre as 'Kallu Mama' - Satya and Aslam Bhai - LKLKBK.
And as like them even this should be a definite HIT.
Composed by
inimitable Sandeep Chowta who has been giving original
tunes one after another, lyrics are by Tapori
specialist Nitin Raikar and
is sung by Sonu Nigam.
'Zindagi Main Tujhpe' composed by Anand Milind
features twice in the album as solos by Udit Narayan
and Alka Yagnik and is
a sore part in the proceedings. It hinders the
entertainment provided by the rest of the numbers.
Supposed to be a love song -
IT BORES. 'Jaaneman Tu Khub Hai' by Sonu Nigam and
Sunidhi Chauhan is composed by Anand Raj Anand and
fills in as an
okay dokay time pass track. A routine track, it just
passes by - and that's all. Strictly for an
occassional listening.
'Ishq Junu Hai' composed by Anand Milind and sung by
Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Prshant is again one of
those typical
time pass kinds that do not have much of creative
inputs and just manage to be average.
In totality, there is nothing too great about the
musical score of Jaani Dushman. The strong action kind
title of the movie may
also prove to be a negative for the music lovers who
are always looking out for something melodious. The
album may pick, but
that will be through word of mouth publicity and once
the movie hits the theatres.
