A few days back we spoke about the instance when we
pick up an album with pre conceived notions and more
often than not
our notions prove to be true. But sometimes we are
pleasantly surprised - as was with the case of
Sandhya. But this time,
again the intuition seems to be true when we listen to
Annarth. We know what exactly is in store for us with
the title of the 80's
like this and we are not at all let down. Produced and
directed by action director turned director Ravi
Dewan, Annarth has Sunil
Shetty in the lead with Preeti Jhangiani as his sister
and has Sanjay Dutt in special appearance as the owner
of a strangely
titled "Bewafa Bar". Model Gautam and southpaw Vinod
Kambli make their debut in this actioner that also
stars Shwetha
Menon who gyrated sensually in the number 'Humko Tumse
Pyaar Hai' (Ishq) and some other item songs (including
a recent
Lagi Re Lagi from C-Grade Kaboo). Annarth has music by
Anand Raaj Anand and lyrics by Dev Kohli.
The team of Annarth seems to be one pessimistic
anti-love team: what with 3 out of 6 numbers talking
just about bewafai and
whiskey - 'Ankhiyan Na Mila', 'Bewafa Bar' and
'Whiskey Pila De'. The numbers 'Ankhiyan Na Mila' and
'Bewafa Bar' are
choreographed on Sanjay Dutt who seems to be hell lot
of tired in both the numbers. Sanju baba has never
looked older than
this in any other flicks and gives an impression that
he has been forced out of his sleep to perform these
tracks. He is
completely lost in the surroundings around him
primarily because of the unexciting tunes composed by
ARA. Though the sets
are OK (though very primitive - what with pinjras and
all coming from the ceilings), the tune is listless
and Sukhwinder Singh
and Jaspinder Narula just sleep walk through the
number. The dance steps are nothing to talk about and
the song just fails.
Song is about 'bewafai' and 'dhoka' where 'dear old
ishq', after been 'kambakth' and 'kameena' is referred
as 'Sone Ka Pinjra'.
Good thought Kohli saab !!!
Bewafa Bar is even more disappointing as the
expectations were high on seeing Adnan Sami on the
album cover. Worst song of
Adnan's career, it has him singing as if he is drunk
(the situation demands so !!!) But he sings badly
(probably trying a bit
extra) and the song just falls flat. Another
disappointment are the combined vocals of Preeti-Pinky
who just utter three words
BEWAFA BAAR MEIN. Didn't really expect all the lead
singers to be present in such a down market number.
The number is
about a bar owned by the character played by Sanjay
Dutt who himself is shown to be a loser in love and
also invites other
broken hearts to his community. A disgusting track in
totality.
Now move over from the bar to the
intricacies of whiskey in
'Whiskey Pilade'. Abhijeet, Sadhna Sargam and ARA
croon this number that is straight from the 80's.
Again a cheap track
aimed at the front benchers.
'Diwana Dil' is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan but what
really can the poor girl do when the song doesn't have
any valuable ingredient
- be it the tune or the lyrics. A pacy track, it
resembles a number from any other low budget movie
with minimum production
value. 'Ashique Tera' is ditto with vocals by ARA.
Another song - another failure. And if this was not
enough to test the patience
of the listener, there is a supposedly love duet too
by Vinod Rathod and Pamela Jain.
Now after reading the
comments about
the five songs above, are you really interested in
knowing in detail about this number ???
Avoid this album. It is in itself - ANNARTH !!!
