The film takes place in the city of Mumbai, where serial killings are taking place at a rapid pace. The serial killer, who has been named 'Stoneman' by the media due to the way he kills people, has already claimed his fifth victim. Still, the case seems to be of little interest to the Mumbai Police force...

The setting of early 1980s is smartly brought out through things such as smuggler Haji Mastan being shown as the most dreaded name, Panama cigarette being the most favoured brand of the characters, the clothing style slightly 80s and also posters of 1983 Bollywood releases like Coolie and Baghawat in the background.

Kay Kay Menon is as dependable as always in giving a gem of a performance in his quest to unravel the Stoneman mystery. Vikram Gokhale suits the regular authoritative role. Arbaaz Khan has pretty less to do. Rukhsar looks good but has pretty less to show other than her nude back...

The film has an ample thrill quotient with the shadowy frame of the stoneman flitting across on one hand and the police department, specially Arbaaz, holding the renegade cop, Kay Kay, as the prime suspect...

The moments of tension in the movie are well handled and in fact quite scary. Your reviewer shut his eyes and hummed Vaishnav Jan and hoped the moment would pass quickly...

The entire film is shot in the night and the lighting is perfect. The cinematography is very good as well.Kay Kay puts in a great performance but Arbaaz really needs some serious acting classes. He has few lines but his dialogue delivery needs a lot of improvement. Vikram Gokhale and Virendra Saxena excel in their parts...

The Stoneman Murders is an honest portrayal of 'what could have been'. But it's not as gripping as it should have been. Nonetheless it's a novel concept and worth a watch…for Kay Kay, if nothing else...

Through the first half of the film you see a run up to the stone man, the chaos in Sanjay's life and the series of murders that happen. While this half works well the second half is a different story, it tries to rationalize and zero in on the killer...

The film does nothing to redeem the sense of claustrophobic dread that shrouds the characters on either side of the law. The moments created to establish a link between the private life and public investigations of the cops are so stagey you wonder if they were written and shot to deliberately deflect attention from the main business at hand, namely the messy killings.

The film recreates the horrific tale of the 1983 serial killer who killed nine victims in Mumbai by smashing their heads with a large stone. The police files list the crime as unsolved but the film believes this could have been a sham...

This serial killing story badly needs bailing out. Kay Kay Menon with his strong, wry unsmiling presence brings grit to the feeble drama. Arbaaz Khan as his adversary in the police department has nothing much to do. A couple of supporting performances try to flesh out the shadowy scenario.

Amitabh Bachchan is on all film posters. Haji Mastan is the don Mumbaikars still speak of in fear. Premier Padminis are very much on the roads. There is only one TV channel. Everyone wears bellbottoms. This is the year of the Stoneman murders in Mumbai, nine horrific killings where victims were hit with huge rocks.
