The film starts well and even the end has been handled in a realistic underplayed manner. With a sound script the film would have become a real winner. As of now the film tends to drag unnecessarily.

The first half of the film, like I said earlier, is fantastic. It is truly entertaining and hilarious. But the second half is very disappointing. The film seems to take you to a high pitch, and then drop unexpectedly.

Jaideep Varma's Hulla is not the poorer sister of Hulla Bol. It’s not about the good old hulla hoops either. It’s about a man who can’t sleep because a security guard keeps blowing a whistle way beyond midnight. What a fright. Just sit tight, take some cotton buds along. Because they keep blowing the whistle in Dolby surround, and don’t let you sleep either.

Director Jaideep Varma opts for 'different' cinema that focuses on the hilarity emanating from a desperate man's situation. Its not 'ha ha' funny; it might extract some 'he hes' though.

The first half initiates with some forthrightly funny characters and innovative gags which thankfully is in a subtle and sincere spirit. Unfortunately most of this humour is almost reproduced in the second half bringing in a sense of monotony.

The film's strength is its mostly understated humour that is derived from situations that are easily identifiable; and also its oddball characters - like the over-aggressive Punjabi senior who threatens to tear his shirt open and get into a fight at the drop of a hat; even the seemingly normal Mrs Shenoy who goes hysterical each time her little daughter breaks something.
