The film talks of the Indian youth, sitting snug in the urban environment, oblivious to the plight of rural India which feeds one of the biggest economies in the world...

The movie opens with a man standing in the middle of a lush green farm. And when you realize he is going to commit suicide, the contrast between the rich field and the poor man hits you like a bolt...

Summer 2007 opens with a peasant putting himself on fire -- depicting the Vidarbha farmers' mass suicide. The scene cuts to three medical students, smoking a joint on a hill, and chatting -- they are the typically rich friends, with no big worries in life.

Summer 2007 has positive attributes aplenty. It has a very strong subject and kudos to the director, Suhail Tatari who chose to make his debut with an issue based film. It is very well researched and the Marathi dialogues add authenticity to the movie.

Summer 2007 opens with a peasant setting himself ablaze in a farm. The scene moves to three college kids, medical students at that, on a hilltop in a jeep, smoking a joint and talking casually about fast cars and rape incidents (sic).

The film starts well with a scene indicating that rural suicides will somewhere fit into the plot, while quickly shifting to urban India where a group of five private medical college students are introduced.

Suhail Tatari definitely has a message to put across and a noble one. But somewhere down the line things start to loosen up terribly. The story and screenplay by Bijesh Jayarajan is extremely weak and lacks focus. One wonders what the movie really is about.

The film has a cause, that of farmer suicides, at its premise after all! No matter that the handling of an issue dealing with the death of 1,50,000 farmers is immature, no matter that it looks forced and just a tool to further the story towards an illogical finale. How dare I not like it! It's meaningful cinema after all!

Summer 2007 suffers due to over-writing, by which I mean the film is trying to pack in too many things all at once.

'Summer 2007' seems like a film made out of angst. But the biggest flaw in the movie is that it doesn’t follow a single course. And this is because the director tries to blend some commercial masala into this otherwise arty endeavor.

Sikander Kher, who made his debut with Woodstock Villa, is evolving into a fine actor with every next movie of his. The young actor has handled the complex scenes in this venture with natural ease, which is praiseworthy.
