Black Friday is a very well made movie; the technical aspects are par excellence and live up to the expectations of the genre. The acting is at its best, the background music is very well used, and the locations and sets seem as real as they could be. But the narration style is not gripping at all.

Black Friday is a triumph for Hindi cinema; it’s the winning stroke we’ve been waiting for. A must-see for every Mumbaikar.

While the film stays true as a dark, brooding, evil tale, it is told with a droll, dry humour that brings a smile even as the protagonists head toward their final unforgiving denouement.
This is good cinema and needs to be patronised.

The film is based on journalist Hussain Zaidi's heavily researched book by the same name, and what makes Black Friday so controversial - and the reason why it was such a battle to bring this film to screen - is because it takes names.

The penultimate shot of Tiger Memon (Pavan Malhotra) scowling down the Mumbai horizon as he flings his unstubbed cigarette over the city-line declaring: akkha Mumbai ko jala dalega...

It will do just average business. Reason being availability of the pirated copy of the movie in the market from the last 2 years. But strong word-of-mouth could result in business picking up after a week or so.

The immensely talented Kay Kay Menon and Aditya Srivastava excel in their respective roles, while Vijay Maurya’s resemblance to underworld don and international terrorist Dawood Ibrahim is shocking.

Black Friday begins with the interrogation of one Gul Mohammed, who in a bid to save his imprisoned brother, spills the beans on a bomb conspiracy targeting the Bombay Stock Exchange, Mantralaya, Shiv Sena Bhavan and other strategic locations. His confession is dismissed as drivel by the police. Three days later, the face of Bombay is changed forever.

Superb, Brilliant, Awesome - bring out the adjectives, this is one film which deserves it. It is so realistic that from the first frame it 'gets' to you.

The narrative of ‘Black Friday’ is multi-layered. Alongside the bomb blasts, the film also documents the journey of an angry, revenge seeking Muslim youth, Badshah Khan, from Delhi to Rajasthan and still further. Anurag pays a lot of attention to this character as it signifies the angst among Muslim youths.
Then there is also Tiger Memon, the main accused, who spells out the reasons for the attacks at the film’s fag end.

In a nutshell, Black Friday is cinematically brilliant as it is as a story. A must see for those who believe Indian cinema is moving in circles.
