THE FILM
Dasvidaniya is about a man who creates the list of ten things he wants to do before his impending death which is just 3 months away. Still, the film doesn't make death seem funny and hence takes you into a ha-ha-hee-hee land. Neither does it become too melodramatic. Instead, it indeed makes you feel that it's worth an effort to re-look at the life you are living, prioritize the activities you are doing and then make the most of the moments available to you rather than fret about smaller issues that seem big and disturbing enough. In short, Dasvidaniya is a piece of meaningful cinema that does manage to entertain as well!
The moment character played by Vinay Pathak realizes that he has only a few months to go before his death, there is a certain sadness that comes in the proceedings. However, the director here quickly balances the situation by adding the character of Ranvir Shorey who only ends up acting as an alter ego of Vinay Pathak. Flamboyant, stylish, a little over the top and someone who lives life every moment without worrying about the next day to come, Ranvir gives Pathak a reason to smile for the days that remain in his life. While Ranvir disappears from the scene after an initial consolation, his soul continues to show Pathak a way into the future.
So whether it is giving a befitting reply to the bully boss (Saurabh Shukla) or proposing his first love (Neha Dhupia) who is married with a kid or getting that bright red car or finding love in a Russian hooker or meeting his childhood best friend (Rajat Kapoor) - Vinay Shukla does it all and with aplomb. A simpleton at heart, he doesn't want to tell a lie or take advantage of his situation or cheat the world. He plays it simple and dies a content man.
For example, on buying a car he insists that he pays every penny for it before his death, when meeting his friend he doesn't take advantage of his status as a US based doctor, while being with a hooker he actually gives and takes real love, while proposing to his first love he acknowledges the fact that she is the luckiest woman in the world to have found a perfect partner in a perfect marriage. In a nutshell, none of the instances sees the character slip out from its original self.
There is not one single character in the film that is not justified while each and every actor, whether in a big or a small role, does extremely well in the screen space provided to him/her. Everyone acts with very good conviction in Dasvidaniya and this is even more apparent considering the fact that most of them belong to an alternate camp that the likes of Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, Ranveer Shorey, Neha Dhupia and company have managed to create in last 4-5 years.
Of course for a film with a theme and realistic setting like this, there are moments where the narrative turns a little sluggish and also a bit predictable. The novelty factor wears off every now and then and the pace too becomes a tad slow. Moreover, budget constraints of the film are more than being visible as there isn't much that could have justified the audience walking into theaters in hordes due to its small canvas setting. There isn't too much repeat value too though for a one time watch on television, Dasvidaniya turns out to be a fair watch.

CONCLUSION
Dasvidaniya is a sweet sounding feel good film that makes you smile even as you know within first 10 minutes of the film that the central character here would be dying at the end. However, unlike an Anand or a Kal Ho Na Ho that had one shedding tears towards the end, this one actually makes you look at the end credits with a smile on your face.
