THE FILM
Contract is a badly made movie. In fact it is easily the biggest downer from Ram Gopal Varma ever. And that's saying a lot since his Aag continues to be a fore runner for that position. This is what makes one wonder whether Ramu actually shot the film in entirety or left it to some wannabe directors who would have been excited to come behind the camera for a tried and tested underworld saga.
Now how many times have we seen a man suddenly willing to come out of his shell and eliminate the baddies because his own family has been killed. That's Strike 1 for Contract since the hero Adhvik Mahajan (he really makes Mohit Ahlawat look far more promising) quite emotionlessly lets himself be driven round the countries by top cop Prasad Purandare (he was excellent as the main villain in Ab Tak Chappan but equally boring in Contract) to dilute an underworld-terrorist nexus.
Then there is this top terrorist played by Zakir Hussain who comes up with such a terrible parody of a performance that one actually wishes that he gets eliminated soon. A don's moll (Sakshi) surfaces a few reels down the line and tries to project an image that 'girls can be bad too'. She takes permission from her 'Don' bhaiyya to be with Adhvik in his mission and do some 'chaiyya chaiyya'. Sorry, but Adhvik bhai is just not interested!
In fact, he doesn't look interested in anything that he does. Neither does the director. Nor does anyone else who is a part of the film. It is this disinterest and boredom which looms large in Contract that makes it one of the most aimless tales seen for quite some time.
That's of course the case until and unless you are kicked by the loud antics of Upendra Limaye, the 'don-on-the-boat' (now this one is probably an original here), who shouts all the time on with his wife even as his sidekicks and friends from the world of politics and corporate houses hardly seem interested while staring away in the sky!

CONCLUSION
Contract is truly bizarre. Here there is no drama, no action, no nothing. In fact there is not a single scene that one can pick up and say that 'I haven't watched this one before'. Ok, so at the end of the day there are as many plots and as many sequences that one can build. But we are talking about Ram Gopal Varma here who at the least has always managed to bring on his own touch in framing a shot. Here none of that happens due to which Contract turns out to be a film which deserves an absolute skip.
