THE FILM

Mini skirted wife (Hrishita Bhatt) - Yippppieee, I have a solution to all your problems! Suited booted husband (Manoj Bajpai) - And that is....?
She - I just learnt how to do Google search, browse through Naukri.com and have found a list of prospective employees for you!
He - Sniff sniff....you are so....sob sob....caring!

Arrey Manoj bhai, if you owned a 50 crore ki company yourself, couldn't you yourself have thought of doing something like this when your entire team of executives and office boys had abandoned you after the sealing of your office? Ok, so you were busy making rounds of Delhi streets and become a corporate-world-ka-Dev D but then you had a 'raat-mein-bhi-shades-daalne-waala' good for nothing so-called VP (Vijay Raaz) who could have done something as basic as Google search for you? Why to make your deary wifey to do this for you when she could have instead spent some more quality time in taking care of the spacious Sainik Farm in Delhi that you owned?

So you see, our poor little rich man has been taken away from his deary office and instead of browsing through a property website, he goes through the route of 'jugaad' and instead settles for a place that has no 'bijli-paani', all courtesy a shady man called Bakshi Jugaadu [Sanjay Mishra]. Kya baat hai! Wouldn't an easier solution have been to approach a property dealer instead? And by the way, it is hard to believe that you were computer illiterate enough that disallowed you to browse through a property site? Well, you along with your wife certainly knew how to bang a laptop keyboard while pressing on a random letter (woh bhi ishtyle mein) when the intention was to press 'Enter'. And puhleeeze, it is so passé to have a beep sound whenever 'Enter' key is pressed on a website! I don't remember browsing through such sites for a long, long time!

So why am I talking about such scenes here? Because other than these 'choti-moti baatein' that make Jugaad a hilarious experience, there is nothing else that keeps your attention on even though the film is less than 2 hours in duration. While Manoj Bajpai is decent as a haggard man who is just not able to find the right 'jugaad' to get his property back, it is Vijay Raaz who does manage to provide some comic moments. These scenes too are frivolous in nature but in this dry drama (the DVD cover calls it as a comic thriller though! Huh, go figure!), it is his natural act (a bit rough and below the belt though) which keeps Jugaad going. Ditto for Sanjay Mishra whose entry into the scene time and again peps up the proceedings to some degree.

However, as the film moves into the second half, insanity of the proceedings start getting on your nerves. I mean what was this double role-shouble role business that Govind Namdeo got himself involved in? And that item number 'Tabaahi'? Aaah, poori film ko tabaah kar daala! Maar daala, anyone?

Avoid!

PACKAGING

Surprise, surprise. One didn't quite expect a movie like Jugaad to have an attractive packaging but that's exactly the case with a colorful paper and plastic packaging giving an indication of a comedy film in the offering. Also, Raju Srivastava's 'Great Indian Laughter King' is thrown in as a bonus DVD!

CONCLUSION

When director Anand Kumar made his first film Delhi Heights, it was at least tolerable because the actors (Jimmy Sheirgill, Neha Dhupia) had come up with decent acts and most importantly, at least the frames looked good. However, with Jugaad, he only succeeds in going a few notches down with a tacky treatment reaffirming that the film by itself was some sort of 'jugaad'!
