THE FILM

Oops!

Now how could Akshaye Khanna agree to be part of such a flick where all he has to do is shout at his father (Paresh Rawal) in a tone that won't even befit someone (mis)treating a servant?

Now how could Paresh Rawal agree to play a henpecked father (there are no reasons offered that why is he like that)? All that he does is cook food and roam from one end of the big (Studio) hall to another a la Garam Masala.

Now how could Om Puri agree to use words like 'maal' and 'cheez' for a girl/woman of any shapes and size, especially after admitting that Buddha Mil Gaya last year was a mistake?

Now how could Genelia D' Souza (who is now in A league after Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na) decide to be a part of a film like Mere Baap Pehle Aap where all she had to do was irritate audience to the hilt with her overly silly pranks and a body language/dialogue delivery which demonstrated arrogance/over confidence more than cuteness?

Now how could Rajpal Yadav just bow down to being a victim of market diktat and consent to feature in a Priyadarshan film when all the screen time he got saw him getting beaten black and blue (a la Hungama) even as the humor didn't even come anywhere closer?

Now how could the producers (Shemaroo) fool the audience by showcasing MBPA as a comedy by picking up those select 8-10 short scenes from the film that promised some laughs? Even though the film in itself was hardly a comedy or a romantic or a dramatic tale (actually it was nothing but a disjointed fare that did nothing to keep audience's interest alive in the proceedings), it was sold as yet another comic entertainer from Priyadarshan?

Now how could Priyadarshan approve first 80 minutes of the film's story (?) that had precious little to offer to the film's plot (Paresh Rawal deciding to marry Shobhana) to be filmed for celluloid?

Worse, how could he further allow all of this to evaporate in thin air with some more silliness in the plot (Paresh and Shobhana being brought together in a party, their first meeting, confession of Akshaye and Genelia, sudden emergence of Genelia's dad Naseeruddin Shah, Shobhana refusing to marry Paresh without giving a reason, Shobhana now agreeing to marry Paresh - again no reasons)?

The list is so long, so endless, so pointless, so soulless, one can just go on and on and on and dissect each and every situation in the film. And what horrifies is Akshaye's constant grating act when it comes to his dad that eventually it gets on your nerves to such an extent that even his wicked smile doesn't prove to be any redemption whatsoever!

Now how could Priyadarshan come up with such a nightmarish comedy that it takes on the silliness of Krazzy 4, yet another horrible film of the year so far, heads on?

PACKAGING

Even though the film's thick paper case proclaims MBPA to be a 'Worldwide Hit', the fact is that the world knows it isn't one! Also, the back side of the DVD cover mentions a few lines from certain selected reviews. What it (obviously) doesn't mention is countless negative reviews that the film suffered from on its release.

DURATION

The film comes in a single DVD pack with the film's duration being 166 minutes.

SPECIAL FEATURES

- Making of MBPA
- Deleted scenes
- Promotional Video

When the film by itself is so bad, who would really be interested in having a look at it's making? Here an elaborate section has been dedicated on the making of the film and the songs which has primarily been put in place during the shooting of the promotional title track. Yet again, the cast and crew primarily talk about routine stuff centered on what the film is and how their 'kirdar' has shaped up and stuff alike. Yet again, the 'real' making of the film vis-Ă -vis challenged faced or any anecdotes are conspicuous by their absence.

The film by itself is close to 3 hours hence it is more of a welcome relief to have some of the scenes being cut. There are some short scenes (less than 1 minute) which form a part of the DVD but none of them manage to excite since majority are (surprisingly) the ones which one has witnessed in countless promos of the film.

Presence of Promotional video (title song) is surprising since it appears twice in the film already - once towards pre-climax (one of the worst song placements seen in a long long time) and then during end credit rolls. Its special inclusion in the Special Features section is something which hardly excites!

TECHNICAL DETAILS

- 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen Presentation
- Subtitles in English
- Dolby Digital 5.1 and Stereo

PRICE

Rs. 299/=

CONCLUSION

Conclusion? Now is that really required for this film which would easily go down as one of the Top-5 worst films of the year so far. Avoid it!

Rating: *1/2
