THE FILM

Everything in Dhoom Dadakka comes in pairs. How exactly? Well, let me explain it for you!

Two heroes - Shaad and Sameer are so bad, oh so so so very bad, that would make anyone and everyone out there on the street to start getting hero aspirations. In an order to be a part of all the mockery that they have been subjected to by director Shashi Ranjan, they only end up making a mockery of themselves. There is one thing about someone being a bad actor. And there is another for someone to be 'asked to do' bad acting. Unfortunately, it is the case of latter here since both Shaad (Woh Lamhe, Awarapan) and Sameer (Life Mein Kabhi Kabhie) have shown in the past that if nurtured well, they CAN act!

Two heroines - Frankly, they are not as bad as their leading men here! In fact, out of the four leads, Aarti - who actually is the senior most here by years and volume of experience - is the best as she gets the right comic timing more often than not. She gets the glam quotient on to too without making it all look on your face and appears pretty confident throughout the 2-hour film. Shama is 'kabhi decent kabhi awkward' but one can't really blame her for the mess she has been subjected to!

Two veterans - Now these are the two men around whom the film's plot revolves. As the veteran bum-chum pals who are international dons but with a heart of gold (they want to build a hospital but to get 'zameen' for that, they need to have an heir who can rule on this land once they are dead), Anupam Kher and Satish Shah set out on the wafer thin plot of finding one. Surprisingly, in spite of a platform being provided to them where they could have got the house down with their funny antics, they come across as study in contrast. While Kher overacts, Shah under acts! What a pity!

Two villains - Another pity! There must be a law out there that should stop Gulshan Grover and Jackie Shroff to be a part of such cinema! Gulshan Grover has been around for close to 3 decades to differentiate between a good and a bad film and he must know that acting with conviction doesn't make a good film. Ditto for Jackie Shroff who must have been tempted by playing a copybook Marlon Brando act from Godfather but in the process must have forgotten that the man at the helm of affairs is the same who gave him a dud Dobara a few years back!

Two buffoons - When almost 10 minutes are spent on Bobby Darling for one straight running sequence, you know that the makers of the film have lost out on all the ideas to take a story forward and are now merely filling in the blanks! Worse, a complete non-actor who goes by the real and reel name of Zak gets into a 'cha-cha-cha' dance sequence with Darling! Gawwd, give me a break!

Two genuinely funny actors - If at all Dhoom Dadakka is watchable (and that too strictly for the audience who don't mind being a part of the gallery), it is due to Satish Kaushik and Deepshikha. Some words of caution here - every scene they come together, you get Dada Kondke brand of humor with phrases like 'bada hai', 'itna lamba', 'de de', 'le le' and the stuff alike! Still, both Satish Kaushik and Deepshikha seem to have completely surrendered to the director's (and writer's) vision and make sure that they make best out of the screen time available!

SPECIAL FEATURES

The DVD carries a 23 minutes 'Making of the film'. Well, this is what people associated with the film had to say and this is what my take is on their comments:

Shashi Ranjan - "My friends tell me that I have this mad streak" (Yes, they were right!)

Aarti Chhabria - "I was in splits doing the narration" (I know, stupid things do make one laugh)

Shama Sikandar - "I was in splits doing the narration" (I know, Aarti said the same thing. Same comment holds good here too)

Gulshan Grover - "Film is full of 'manoranjan'" (Come on, it doesn't suit elder people like you to lie)

Anupam Kher - "Humor is inherent in the film" (Et tu, Kher saab?)

Sameer Dattani - "I was apprehensive about doing this film" (Kid, you should have listened to your heart)

Shashi Ranjan - "My friends suggested that I make a comedy film" (Were they really friends?)

CONCLUSION

Satish Kaushik has always been a good actor, ever since the days of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. However, when he turns out to be the best part of a film that comes with 2 leading heroes (Shaad, Sameer), 2 leading heroines (Aarti, Shama), 2 veteran actors (Anupam Kher, Satish Shah), 2 villains (Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff), 2 buffoons (Zak, Bobby Darling) and 2 genuinely funny characters (Satish Kaushik, Deepshikha), you know that there is a reason to worry!
