THE FILM
For his launch pad, dad Harry Baweja has done everything to showcase what a conventional Bollywood hero is required to do. This is why Harman is good in each of the departments, whether it is dancing or emoting or performing on action sequences.
Now if only there would have been a good enough narrative to bring all of this together on a nicely laid down platform! Because this is one area where Love Story 2050 fails to engross its audience. The film's second half is a complete downer as it deteriorates every 30 minutes and by the time the climax of this near 3 hour long movie arrives, one is completely exasperated. Of course the special effects are awesome throughout the film but it is the story running in the background which is an absolute bore.
These are the moments where you don't exactly know how and where the film is heading since sequence after sequence one is just served SFX and more of SFX. A few of them look good but a couple of them just makes one wonder what was the editor doing. The XBOX game simulation between Harman and Priyanka is downrightly forced and makes no sense while the much hyped climax sequence (the chase in the skyline) is wrapped up so fast that one is left asking for more.
Now let's talk about the biggest blunders of the film - the characters of Harman's robot friend and Priyanka's teddy bear friend. If one has to be tortured through moving images on a screen, subject them to a 3 hour DVD comprising of just these two characters in motion and 'killing' results are guaranteed.
Of course, if one leaves these blemishes aside, what one remembers after the film are some other skillfully done SFX sequences and the entire city setup of year 2050. Truly imaginative, they are bound to be referred to through years down the line. Of course, it is just the year '2050' which remains while 'Love Story' vanishes completely as you don't feel for the love birds at all. Priyanka completely looses the plot in the role of a pop star while Harman is constantly seen sobbing around to have his love back. Meanwhile, Boman Irani and the two kids are just some added accessories that do not spice up the proceedings from any end.
To sum it up, Love Story 2050 has it's moments but mainly in the first half of the film which actually shows a 'love story' developing on screen. Beyond that, the movie can be referred only as a text book for some smartly choreographed SFX sequences but that's about it.

CONCLUSION
Ok, so one thing where Love Story 2050 succeeds in doing is establishing a fact. And the fact here is that Harman Baweja is a star material who certainly has a long innings ahead of him. The young man knows what he is talking, what are his strengths and how to camouflage his weaknesses. Love Story 2050 may not be the best of the starts for him but he certainly has a lot more to offer in years to come.
