Zindagi Khoobsurat Hai Review {1/5} & Review Rating

Sai Productions' ZINDAGI KHOOBSOORAT HAI, directed by Manoj Punj, is a sincere endeavor that suffers mainly because of its weak screenplay!

Amar (Gurdas Maan) arrives in Mumbai with the sole ambition of making it big in life. He starts working in a nightclub as a band singer. Many call girls frequent the nightclub, and one such girl is Shalu (Tabu). Soon Amar and Shalu become friends.

Gul Bloch (Ashish Vidyarthi) is an underworld don who loves his daughter Jamila, a mentally challenged kid. Jamila becomes a fan of Amar after she watches him on TV. Gul instructs his men to abduct Amar. Touched by the plight of the father in Gul, Amar meets Jamila and soon gets emotionally attached to her.

Meanwhile, Amar discovers Shalu's ultimate dream of living in her home in a remote hill area with her husband and daughter, a fantasy that will remain unfulfilled. But Amar assures Shalu that he will make the dream come true. They visit Amar's house in the hills and while there, they fall in love.

Back in Mumbai, Amar's struggle pays off as a leading producer signs him for three movies. In the meantime, Shalu reverts back to her 'normal' life. At this stage, Amar offers to marry her provided she gives up her habits.

But an incident changes everything?

The problem with ZINDAGI KHOOBSOORAT HAI is that there are four stories running parallel throughout and proper justice has not been meted out to either of these ?

* The first being Ashish Vidyarthi's enmity issue, which comes up in intervals.

* The second is the bonding between Gurdas Maan and Ashish Vidyarthi's daughter Jamila, which gets sidelined once the romantic track begins.

* The third is the romantic track of Tabu and Gurdas Maan.

* The fourth being the Navni Parihaar-Sonu Sood revenge angle, which unexpectedly comes up in the climax.

In an attempt to package just about everything in the film, writer Suraj Sanim has not been able to do justice to either of the stories. Although director Manoj Punj has executed a few sequences with sensitivity, what takes the graph of the film down is the slow pace it moves ahead. The narrative moves at a sluggish pace and the impact gets diluted.

The climax, which should've been the highpoint, looks least convincing. The film could've done without so much action in a moving train and subjecting the child to so much torture.

Anand Raaj Anand's music is an asset and at least two numbers can easily be singled out ? the title track and 'Yaar Dildaara Ve'. Cinematography is wonderful, especially the eye-filling outdoor locales.

Gurdas Maan emotes well, but is a complete miscast in the role. A younger hero would've been a more suitable choice. Tabu is, like always, dependable, although she doesn't get enough scope to display histrionics. Ashish Vidyarthi is first-rate. Divya Dutta is effective in a role that has grey shades. Sonu Sood is alright.

On the whole, ZINDAGI KHOOBSOORAT HAI is too ordinary a fare to leave any impact whatsoever.
