JAZBAA - So its the Big Comeback this Friday from the gorgeous (i think the whole country would agree on that) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. From the start when i get to here that Aish is doing a comeback in a Sanjay Gupta film , i was little shocked. Sanjay Gupta is not a mainstream director in Bollywood. He make genre movies , mostly crime and thriller. That too mostly with actors like Sanjay Dutt , Sunil Shetty and Anil Kapoor. Yes there was Amitab Bachchan in Kaante and John Abraham in Shoot Out at Wadala which are actually the exceptions in his not so great Filmography.. So why Aish choose this movie , may be because Gupta's last outing was a hit or may be Aish connected with the character of the mother. Whatever the reason is , it was a not so good decision. And this movie will not give any push to Aish's carrier. I really don't have anything much to write. Because there is nothing great in the movie (except the beautiful cinematography) neither there is anything worst in the movie . It was just passable. So i am gonna keep this review short The whole story has been almost shown in the trailer , only suspense left in the movie was that who exactly was the kidnapper. That too has been predicted by my friend sitting with me almost around interval. Nor it was too shocking. Actually i kind of disliked the climax. The courtroom scenes are done totally in a childish manner. I mean can a High Court Judge really give bail to a person whom the lower court has regarded as convict just because his lawyer in High Court proves that there was another person in the house when murder was done. Although she is not denying that his client could be the murderer. That was so silly. I didn't liked the characterisation too. Aish's character hasn't been shown as an honest lawyer. Infect the first scene in the film shows that she will do anything to save his client whether its legal or illegal . And yes she only takes the case of guilty criminal as they only can afford his fees. I imagine why exactly kidnapping has been done of his daughter , she could have taken the case happily as this was what she does - saving criminals. Then there was Irfan Khan. Already given too breakthrough performance this year , this time he choose wrong. His chemistry with Aish was totally bad. They two are not to bring together . And yes those over the top dialogues made Irfan's character uninteresting. I mean yes those dialogues are poetic (not all of them but some of them) , but totally irrelevant for the film. After many time there comes a picture where actually i didn't enjoyed Irfan Khan . And same goes for Sabana Azmi. I am not blaming them , its totally writers fault. Sanjay Gupta's track record is not great , but he use to make watchable movies. This one also goes in the category of ZINDA and DUS KAHANIYA. But they could have gone in the category if KAANTE and SHOOTOUT AT WADALA if written well. This was only style without material. The cinematography is one thing which i have to appreciate. The look of Mumbai was totally unique like never seen before which could only be enjoyed in big screen. But i guess that's not enough to pay the price of the ticket. O yes , i forget to tell about Aishwarya's acting. Well i think its still the same. She is always good in good director's hand , average in average director's hand and bad in bad director's hand. And here she was average. 5.9/10. By ANuP APu KuMaR

Aishwarya Rai makes her comeback after being away from the big screen for 5 years, and Sanjay Gupta is back after the mediocre Shootout At Wadala. So expectations for Jazbaa are not humongous, but they are above average because both actor and filmmaker boast of a pretty good resume. And for the most part Jazbaa is a highly watchable, and enjoyable thriller. Its not very edge of the seat, maybe barring a scene or two, but the acting makes up for those minuses, with a cast that includes of Irfan Khan, and Shabana Azmi you will more than enjoy the performances. But Jazbaa is somewhere stuck between being, a realistic gritty drama, and a over the top commercial entertainer. This is because there many cheesy over the top dialogues, the films melodramatic to the core, and logic takes a back seat at many times. But when Mr. Khan enters the scene the film gets some credibility back. Also the films final message is a good one, but more on that later. Story wise the film is about a lawyer named Anuradha Verma, who believes in fighting cases for money, therefore most of time she is setting murders and other criminals free. She has a impeccable record, Anuradha Verma is one of the best lawyers in India. One day while at her daughters track meet at school, her daughter gets kidnapped out nowhere. Anuradha is then left in tears, and about a day later she gets a call from a unknown person saying that if she wants her daughter back, she has to fight a case, and make sure a murder, and rapist is set free. She then with help of her friend the suspended police Inspector Yohan, try to free the murder/rapist, and get her daughter back. Acting wise Aishwarya Rai, was very good, but at times she is very loud and melodramatic, but I guess that was the directors demand. Irfan Khan was at his massy hero best, and delivered the over the top dialogues with flair. Shabana Azmi, was great, but in the films climax, she her real fire. Chandan Roy Sanyal was good. Jazbaa is very over the top, its very melodramatic, and its dialogues are hit or miss, at times fiery, at times so cheesy you will end up laughing. But all that is fine for a commercial entertainer, but where the film fails is that films twists don't really ever leave you stunned, and the films climax twist is a joke, it didn't work for me. And Abhimanyu Singh's character Abbas is just so bad its hilarious, like straight out of 80s bwood film. But a lot of the ground is made up by the good acting, and the films razor sharp edit, its racy narration film. Also the film never bores, its very enjoyable for the most part, and its shot very in a very niche but nice way.The films final message of the fight against rape in India is a great message that needs to be applauded. Overall Jazbaa is a one time watch, but one excepts more from Sanjay Gupta, because he is the man who made films like Kaante, Plan, and Musfair etc but I mean for the masses, and women wanting to watch a film thats speaks about women empowerment, Jazbaa will be a very enjoyable watch, just keep your expectations in check.

In beginning few scenes, you come to know that makers have lost their balance. Like main female lead shouts like hell when her daughter gets missing from school relay race as if she was aware that her daughter could get kidnapped, if it was there then they should have established it in earlier scenes. Mother, daughter scenes are very routine, like missing to kiss while seeing her off to school, missing on dinner table. An over smart lawyer believes on kidnapper words, only seeing her daughter video that she is safe right now, video could have been past recorded too. Except climax nothing is new in story. Screenplay fails to offer any thrill. It just passes the information. First scene of court room is very childish but they wanted to use this character in later second half of film so just stuffed it. Dialogues by Mr. Kamlesh Pandey are too good. It is quite surprising that how can he manage to stud romantic gems in such type of dry genre film, like "Neend To Mashooqa Ki Tareh Hoti Hai, Waqt Na Do To Bura Mankar Chali Jati Hai" " Mohabbat Hai Isiliye To Jane Diya, Zid Hoti To Banhon Me Hoti." His work is simply adorable. Screenplay is so lame that ransom caller knows her every whereabouts except when she investigates. Even kidnapper send dummy hand to terrify her, how obsolete and repeated this one!? When they felt that screenplay is not being tight then they stuffed some meaningless characters, like Neyaj wife and few others. Most irritating stuff is showing flashback with every ones point of view statement. Seeing almost same things so many times is mentally tiring. How can a thriller can carry such type of stupid scenes? Interval is so exaggerated like typical high octane action movie. I liked one shot that is the way to take kid medicine by giving instruction to keep it in dog's collar pouch. Performance wise Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is good. Irrfan Khan is fantastic as always. Chandan Roy Sanyal as Neyaj, is very good. Shabana Azami makes her character believable with her fine expressions. Jackie Shraoff is OK. Atul Kulkarni is fine. One track by Amjad - Nadeem " Bandeya Tu Munh Mod Ke Na Ja Re, Ruk Ja Re" is melodious.

Jazbaa, an action-drama film directed by Sanjay Gupta, stars Irrfan Khan and Shabana Azmi in supporting roles and you know who is in lead! With the Spoilers' warning I'm gonna start the review. Okay so the film tells the story of Anuradha Verma (A.R. Bacchan) is a prominent lawyer, who has yet to lose a case. And then her daughter disappears. Later in the day, Anuradha receives a phone call from the man who abducted her daughter. The man makes it clear that the only way she will ever see her daughter again is to defend a convicted felon who is appealing his conviction in Court. Anuradha has only few days before his trial ends. She is warned not to go to the cops because the abductor will be closely watching all her moves. Anuradha's cop friend Yohan (irrfan Khan), a suspended policeman, finds out about the abduction and decides to help her. Anuradha has to race against time to save her daughter. All she has are few days. And do watch the movie to know what happens next (Though the climax is predictable enough). This movie is a remake of a Korean movie named "Seven Days". Performances: Okay! I'm of the opinion that A.R. Bacchan couldn't have chosen a better film to come back after her five-year long break and A.R. Bacchan is in a character that isn't close to anything she has done before. Several times the supporting casts (Irrfan Khan and Shabana Azmi) did lift the scenes to a higher note. When it's a matter of Mr. Sanjay Gupta, how can someone miss unwanted and unnecessary item song. It movie includes 'car chasing' too. I do think editing could have been done in more intelligent way, though its decent. This movie has a time-span of 120 minutes only! I don't know why did Mr. Kamlesh Pandey missed the essence of the movie sometimes. Serious story-line with funny dialogues. Other technical faults: • Mental asylum and Rehab centers aren't same. • Suspended cop aren't allowed to order juniors. • Little continuity faults (you can ignore). Wrapping up: Go for : • Story • Acting of Irrfan Khan and Shabana Azmi and A.R. Bacchan. Bypass it for: • Try hard to feel suspense (For movie buffers). For me it's : 3***/5 (considering overall movie. Though Irfan, A.R. Bacchan, S. Azmi deserves 4.5*)

The movie is a copy of a Korean movie Seven days, the movie starts of on a sordid note where a hot shot lawyer, single mother played by Aishwarya Rai has this habit of winning her cases in which she defends the rich who are on the wrong side of the law. She is seen as can do all mother to start with and then starts the journey of her emotional breakdown with the kidnapping of her daughter on her sports day. Enters Irffan Khan who can even light up Sanjay Gupta's green lens movie, he is charged and suspended by his peers ans asked to pay up an ex amount to get his name cleared. Irffan and Aishwarya Rai are child hood friends who are interlocked as one needs to help the other to get her daughter and the other to clean his name. The movie picks up pace and direction and on their journey bumps into a mother in despair who has just lost her young daughter to a rapist who has been punished with capital punishment and is interconnected to their case without she being aware is being pulled in it by the day. The plot dwells into the corrupt ways of our how our power system breaks and buys the law with their bundles and also beats the system. Irffan Khan is compelling and makes it a walk in the park with his punch lines, Shabana Azmi after a gap comes back in true color and echoes the pain well, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan commendable effort starts off rusty but pulls through. Crisp editing, background needs more than Azaans and direction could have been tighter especially since it is lifted and could have been adapted better, missed the Sanjay Gupta music even if it was a score played in the background.
