The VFX in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na explained
By Screen Weekly, July 11, 2008 - 13:50 IST
Jane Tu…. Ya Jane Na, your friendly neighborhood love story of sorts, had a dose of VFX. Viral Thakkar, computer graphics head, Pixion, details the effect in the film
Association with film
We signed Jane Tu….. Ya Jane Na a year ago when there was buzz in the market that Pixion was a post production house to reckon with after the industry raved about our works in films like Don and Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. Moreover director Abbas Tyrewala was in constant touch with us in some way or other. Possibly he must have impressed upon Aamir Khan to give us Post production work of his film including VFX (Visual effects) and DI (Digital intermediate).
VFX work
This is a film based on human relations. But since the use of VFX is must in films these days, they decided to use VFX in a different way. The VFX sequences merge with the flow of the story. And we have been receiving a lot of praise of our work in the film. We have done a song sequence Jaane tu mera kya hai, in which Genelia is in the forefront while innumerable images of hers dance to the tune of the song in the passage behind her.
Dance works
This was supposed to be a dream sequence and we managed to make the song look like one. In the song sequence, we created a cartoon cat which was shown dancing in a thought bubble. Then the passage was full of photo-frame that are seen showing various scenes featuring her with Imran Khan. We also did a lot of sky replacement composited clouds etc for the sequence. You will be surprised to know that it took us nearly three months to complete the full sequence.
Rat-a-Tat
There is this rat sequence in Imran Khan and Prateik Babbar are seen doing their best to catch a small white mouse that goes berserk. It was a funny sequence as far as viewing is concerned, but the making was quite tough. While shooting, the crew had a problem shooting the rat along with the actors. There was no other option but to create the rat on VFX. The crew shot a clean plate without a rat which we created afterwards with the help of the computer graphics. We did a lot of motion track work on the computer and composited it. The entire environ had to be actually matched so as to make the scene look real. It took nearly a month for us to finish the rat sequence.
Nasseruddin Shah's photo frame sequence
Compared to the sequence I mentioned before, this was quite an easy task. We composited the photo-frame sequence online.
