"Sanjay Mishra had to be subtle, not over the top" - Shreyas Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, September 28, 2007 - 12:25 IST

A fortnight after his last release Aggar, Shreyas Talpade gears up for Dil Dosti Etc. which arrives today.

On being asked how was it working with Prakash Jha (producer of the film), he replies, "I thoroughly enjoyed it for a simple reason that I could openly tell him what I feel. I always did so and that was only because he gave me that sense of authority or sense of confidence that I could always go to him and talk to him. I mean you know here is one man who has been in the industry for so long and has done so many fantastic films."

"Certainly when you meet him for the first time, you are in awe of that person but he makes you so comfortable that you feel like you are talking to your elder brother. And you can tell whatever you feel like. So that was that feeling that I had on day one and then when I started talking to him I was completely honest. There were no apprehensions no inhibitions", he recollects his experience during the making of the film.

Talking fondly of his producer, Shreyas adds, "He used to say that he respected all the comments and if possible we could make those changes in the script and whatever were the doubts, it would be seen to that they were cleared before the film went on floors. So I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and am really looking forward on doing something else with him."

He adds, "Today when the whole phase is changing I think I really respect people like Mr. Jha who have that kind of vision and that kind of sensibilities to allow young directors and actors to do what they feel is right", he replies promptly, "He wants to guide new people who want to make a change. He guides them and still be with them with their sensibilities which might be completely different."

How about the project's social relevance?

"The film is very today. There is so much really happening around all of us but of course we are not really trying to hammer it down anyone's throat or mind", Shreyas says, "We are just presenting in a different manner whatever is happening in here. There are these kinds of people who are always around us but eventually what we do with our life and with them is something that we have tried to portray."

He plays the character of a student leader Sanjay Mishra in the film. Did he live the character while shooting for the film?

"Mr. Jha and director Manish Tiwary really helped me with that", recollects Shreyas, "Manish had written the lines keeping that in mind the script and the characters. For example, there is this real life student who was the leader of a particular hostel where we were shooting in right. He was pretty sophisticated and a Bihari and he had this proper Bihari accent when he used to speak. So I tried copying him to certain extent."

"Also, Sanjay Mishra had to have a particular body language and an air of confidence around him. He knows he can do certain things and convince certain people with certain things. So that is what was needed. Still Manish wanted it to be pretty subtle and not go over the top. Hence we adapted to that as well."

Why should people go and watch the film?

"See, people want to see something which is different today. Story could probably be the same but then presentation should be in a complete different manner. So all those attempts will only come on screen when people like Mr. Jha or Adlabs or other biggies will support. I mean otherwise it’s very difficult for a small film or a different kind of a subject to see the light of day", Shreyas states his reasons.

Reflecting on the plight of other film makers, he reflects, "There are so many filmmakers that I have met who come up with really interesting subjects but they don't have that kind of backing. So I really want to thank Mr. Jha for really standing behind this project and making it possible for all of us."

Talking more about the making of the film, Shreyas says, "Dil Dosti Etc. is really interesting. I don't want to comment on the film more because let the audiences do it. Let's see how they find it. For me I had found the script pretty interesting and the film has shaped up more than what we had expected. That is a good positive sign. It's a youth oriented film. Let’s say we have tackled the same issue in a different and an interesting manner. The characters are fresh as well as the faces. I hope people like it!"
