The Cannes Diary: Day 5: Rituparno Ghosh crashes
By Tanuj Garg (from Cannes), May 21, 2007 - 03:44 IST
Tanuj Garg, senior columnist and international movies professional at Studio 18, will give some quick daily pointers in the midst of his busy Cannes schedule, over the key festival dates…..only for India FM
- The calm of the night was broken by spectacular fireworks at The Croisette close to midnight for over 20 minutes uninterrupted. The reason for the fireworks is not clear but the sight from our apartment balcony was splendid to say the least!
- The Cinema Du Mondes section screened the last three films from India - Dosar, Guru and Dharm. All three witnessed strong turnouts from a multicultural audience
- Rituparno Ghosh came crashing down, literally, as his chair broke during the conference. On the brighter side, his film bagged wide appreciation from those who saw it. Ritu had his lead actor Prosenjit around as well but there's no denying that the common man's overall perception of Indian cinema remains confined to Bollywood rather than regional language cinema.
- The Hinduja family threw a party at their villa last night attended by leading screen and trade personalities
- Happy with the response to Lage Raho Munnabhai, Raju Hirani was chilling out in the cafeteria having lunch with his wife and son
- With half the festival and market done, several stand-owners are gradually getting ready to dismantle over the next day or two, as business slows down
