Blog: Page 3 on Page 1 is Unethical Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, February 5, 2007 - 09:37 IST

Since the 14th of the New Year month the Indian TV and the print media are buzzing with the seemingly excited news of the Junior Bachchan's engagement with Aishwarya Rai pushing aside all other sensible stories from the front page corner and the prime time too. Such frenzy and manipulative intelligence for hype on the part of the editorial team do not speak well of the journalistic discretion in the matter of selecting and placing news commensurating with its nature and value. This is indeed bad journalism, the Page 3 forcing itself onto the very first! This kind of glamorous idiocy glaringly visible and resembling the insignificant sound and fury of the Bollywood Masala is another incredibly exaggerated version of the kitty party gossip, which is unfortunately eating into the serious business of the editorial practice and policy of the newspaper and the visual media in our country too.

As Bachchan family had kept the whole affair of the Abhishekh-Ash engagement and their soon ensuing but undated as of now marriage far from the prying eyes of the crazy public, our media should have assessed the news and highlighted it accordingly without unnecessarily painting the front page with crying pink and a thousand smiles. Any sensible media needs to treat a marriage of a politician's son or daughter or a filmstar as a marriage with a human face, not to distance several other important national issues that affect our lives, denying a proper place for every happening. Wishing Ash and Abhishekh meaningful days ahead!
