"I Can't Believe I'm 25!" - Sammir Dattani
By Subhash K. Jha, January 29, 2007 - 12:01 IST
On his 25th birthday on January 27, Sammir Dattani was inundated by female attention in Bangalore.
It was the music release of his new Kannada film Sajini. Girls screamed at the function as if they had seen tomorrow. The cynosure of attention is blushing beet-root. "I can't handle unwanted attention, especially from people whom I don't know. I'm a guy who believes in commitment in a relationship. I can't be frivolous even in casual random bonding like the fan-star one. I think the attention I get here in Bangalore is very precious. Hopefully I'll get some of that in Mumbai soon."
In 2007 Sammir has three releases. "Mani Shankar's Mukhbiir, Nisha Chainai's Mumbai Marathon and Vikram Bhatt's Life Mein Kabhi Kabhie feature me in pivotal roles. I can't wait to be 26. Because by then my fate in movies will be decided."
Sammir shares his birthday with his Life Mein Kabhi Kabhie director Vikram Bhatt. "We're both very quiet thoughtful Aquarians. We believe in being calm and just do our kaam. I believe Bobby Deol who's Vikram’s best friend and who's also born on 27 Jan, is also the same. Put all three of us in the same room and you can't hear a sound except the mind and heart ticking."
Birthday gifts? "The big one is a Sony laptop from a very special friend. Don't ask who that special friend is."
Sammir who has three releases coming up in the first quarter of 2007, had a 36-hour birthday binge with all his friends on his birthday.
"Actually, the parties started on Friday night with my usual family lunch with which I bring in my birthday every year. Then I partied with various groups of friends until Sunday afternoon. I'm still recovering."
Sammir who describes himself as a "gift person" says he went berserk with the presents this year. "My parents gave me a new plasma TV and a very close and special friend gifted me a Sony lap-top. Then there was a very special call from my favourite director Sanjay Bhansali. I was ecstatic. But the best birthday gift was my director Vikram Bhatt with whom I share my birthday calling my performance in his film Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi a 'revelation'. I'm still reeling."
