"I'm known for thrillers like Agnisakshi and 100 Days, but I always wanted to do different genres of films like comedy" – Partho Ghosh

The man who once made films like Agnisakshi, Yugpurush, 100 Days and Ghulam-E-Mustafa has now shifted base to making small budget
films like Chetna, Sitam and Meri Life Mein Uski Wife. His next film from the league, Mr. Hot Mr. Kool is up for release this week.
Parto Ghosh talks about his latest offering.
This is your first comedy flick. What is so special about the story?
Yes, Mr. Hot Mr. Kool is my first comedy but I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It is very much like a Basu Chatterjee kind of a comedy, very
situational tongue-in-cheek kind of comedy. From start to the finish, it is funny altogether. The story is about two boys who are dreamers and
friends. Although there is a complete contrast in their personalities, they loiter around together, work together and stay together. Confusion and
situations are created through a very innocent lie by one of them. This grows in to hilarious proportions.
Why did you shoot in London? We have had so many home-grown funny stories.
Because the story gave us the scope to go to London; however it is not restricted to London. It begins in India and then we have shot at various
locations in UK, including Brington which as comically cold. The beach was so freezing that neither the artistes nor I could speak properly. We
would be trying to say something while some other words would come out. It was so difficult to give instructions and deliver the dialogues too. We
took triple the amount of time needed for a shoot, and had to do several retakes.
How did your artistes perform? Tell us about the two new girls you have introduced.
All the actors were really good and co-operative. They had all the independence as long as they delivered what we needed.
What are your upcoming projects?
I am doing Mere Humsafar with Siddhartha Koirala and Meghna Haldar, which is ready for release next month. This is also with the same
producer Interworld Digital Cinema. Then Kaheen Aag Na Lag Jaye is in the post-production stage. It stars Shilpa Shetty, Isha Deol and Milind
Soman. Third is Mastana with Govinda, Mahima Chowdhary and Jackie Shroff.
How many films are you doing with Interworld Digital Cinema? Do you have a contract with them for certain number of films?
No, there is no contract per se but we will work together as long as the comfort level exists between us. I can not work with people I am not
comfortable with, however good the story is.
Which of your star cast of Mr. Hot Mr. Kool do you see good potential in?
Potential needs to be in the director. If he is good and the story is nice, then artistes can take work from unless they are real duds. My star cast was
really good and gave me full co-operation. Zulfi is cool in real life too and Yash is the hot one. They fitted the role well. Samiksha is a good actress
and is now doing a daily. Priya has potential but she has decided not to work in any more in films.
Was there any funny or memorable incident during the making of the film?
Yes, there were many such incidences. As I said it was very cold and while delivering dialogues, we had to do many retakes as our tongue would
stiffen and slip due to cold. Then London is a very nice city and everybody loved to shop, especially Samiksha. Even between the scenes, she used
to run away to get her hand on some brand new stuff. That would hold up the shoot and I constantly had to keep an eye on the shopoholic girl.
Then we shot inside the capsule of Millennium Wheel for 80 minutes which has never been done before. We needed to do two sequences of the
climax and star cast had to change clothes while on the move. But instead of an embarrassment, it turned out to be pretty funny. We shot without
mishaps.
