Blog: Bollywood really does suck Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, January 4, 2007 - 09:13 IST

So I was thinkin' (I know, bad idea)

It's not like Bollywood movies are the worst thing, and there are always movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham that make you smile and fall in love with the musical numbers and the characters... but after its all said and done, you realize the production value is the absolute sh*t.

Dhoom 2 is a perfect example. This is the year 2007, and by now you would think that Bollywood movies would understand that English should sound like, well, English. But you are always indoctrinated by this weird English that sounds like its being spoken by students who are taking English as a third language. The worst is hearing it come out of characters that are obviously white! Dhoom has a train full of British people who apparently can't speak English properly. It's inane. Don't get me started on the Indian actors, either. Heck, their English is better.

Then add to that bold attempts at stunts that you can tell were done on a shoe string budget (that or Bollywood is just not willing to ask for help from Hollywood on perfecting stuntwork) and you have action scenes that look really amateurish.

It's not that its not cool. Oh, its still cool. John Abraham doing a 360 degree spin into a Street Fighter II Guile-like kick is always cool. But the quality of Hollywood is just NOT there.

Bollywood isn't the worst thing out there. I still enjoy it, and the movies. But until the quality of acting and action is improved, they really do suck next to Hollywood
