Blog: Considering RGV's films as good cinema is just dumb Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, January 2, 2007 - 09:23 IST

This is perhaps one of the biggest questions that boggles most of us today... How does this particular film maker work? Lets face it he relies on sound in those supposed "scary flicks" of his and doesn't do anything original aside from the Jump cut (ROFL).

I've realized that a lot of people who actually like his work and respect him and love him are also big fans of Quinton Tarantino. Mr. Tarantino is much like his Bollywood counterpart when it comes to several cheesy aspects in films and of course the fact that many of their films aren't really masterpieces of cinema (Oh so indiscriminate violence in films counts as great stuff?). But for the select fan boy following they have their films are ardently waited for and sought after.

For a while, I've been perplexed by how can this pedantic level of filming actually get away as good stuff, sure its entertaining on the one time you watch a Tarantino film, but RGV is pretty much dumb.

I came to the conclusion that people who like these films and worship him have already reached their level of appreciation of cinema. They can never evolve and can never actually like other films. It is a hardcore level of retardness that sets in after you start appreciating his work.

I am convinced that people like these are behind a lot of his success and aside from the fact that they think they're bordering the "niche" generation when they proudly exclaim that RGV is God or whatever. Its an aspiration that has set in these people that they want to reach that niche audience to be cool but at the same time deceiving themselves that they aren't looking at something which is popular culture.

Don't get me wrong, am sure these films are very entertaining and enjoyable as brainless fun. But to consider them as "good cinema" is just dumb.
