Blog: What if Hrithik in D2 was in Dubai.. Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, December 20, 2006 - 09:07 IST

Today I saw Dhoom 2 as my tolerance of the adverts that were on all the hindi channels ran low. D2 ran the ad - borrowed from MI2 even to the semicolon. It gave an inclination that there was to be some heavy copying or "Inspiration" as Anu Malik would call it.

But nothing prepared me for the extent to which MI1, MI2, MI3, Oceans eleven, Daddy Yankee's "rompe" music and some Latino background music, were used as "inspiration". There was even a portion that showed "Cars" movie, prompting my friend to yell that they rather show Cars instead of Dhoom 2!!! God save the viewers who have watched the above movies. I dont know, but the previous movie of Hrithik was "Krrish" was also a summary of the English movies that had been released in the past. I think a new trend is emerging. Not bad for business acumen I must admit. Copy from popular english movies, make into a Hindi movie and release it in India. Now the acumen says that a large chunk of the Hindi speaking population do not have access to the above movies which ensures that the Hindi remakes end up grossing money at the counters.

The thief in the movie goes by a signage 'A'. Going by the amount of copying, my friend suggested that his signage should have been 'Ctrl + A' (for those people who have used MS Word/ Powerpoint/ Excel, they would know what it means). He steals priceless things. If he were in Dubai, he would steal a Taxi on Monday morning (because you dont get one easily here - silly if yoh still have not got the logic)!!! He steals some coins, the crown and a sword. And then there is the usual songs, hide and seek, bike chases (that is same as MI2 - only instead of Tom Cruise you have Hrithik - even the bike looks the same).

The experience was worsened by the fact that we bought a huge quantity of pop corn - worth 20 bucks that under normal circumstances would have ensured continuous supply for almost a month for 4 people. We ended up trashing 75% of the pop corn at the end of the movie followed by standing in the queue for about half an hour for a taxi ride back home.

Then I switch on the TV, and I see a Mark Walhberg movie - coincidence that there is a bike and a car chase here as well, only that it is more believable and original. But I have not lost all hope for Bollywood. Am planning a better hindi movie - Kabul Express. Hopefully that should be the saviour for Bollywood. But am still holding my cards or rather my opinions close to my chest. God save us.
