“Our industry lacks action heroes and I am going to fill in that slot” – Vikram Singh Click here to add this article to My Clips

Remember Vikram Singh who was seen opposite Mahima Choudhary in Souten and then in the Ramsay flick Aatma?

After a short sabbatical, he is ready with his next film a comedy by the name of Old is Gold having a hoard of veteran actors including Kader Khan and Asrani. But the project that he is really kicked up about is his next untitled action venture to be made by the producers of Aparichit. “Presently I am not satisfied with the roles that I am doing but I was waiting for a good action film and this one has hit the jackpot for me.”

The wild and macho men of Bollywood have always had something to show. Weightlifting, taking off one’s shirts and fighting 20 men with a single bound has always been synonymous here. But here we have a young man who is showing his brawny talents by other means – Kickboxing.

An action film is not something that comes easy in Bollywood. “I had to get training in kick-boxing. I was always passionate of that sport and now I’m getting a chance to show it on-screen.”

Kick-boxing – a sport not really explored in Indian cinema must be really interesting to enact. “As I said I took a lot of training. My favourites are Richard Brunning from Great Britain and Tommy Bach from the U.S. I have watched all their training DVDs for this role and practiced really hard. However Jean Claude Van Damme is my favourite action hero of all time.”

On asking him about the current scenario of action heroes he was quite critical, “In the new lot of heroes emerging our industry lacks action heroes. I am going to fill in that slot.”

So all set for his next with the Aparachit makers – “I believe good actions films should be made in India and they should be on par with Hollywood. Technically the makers of Aparachit are good makers and I know they will do a good job.”
