“Those who think that I can get spellbound by a girl in red dress or sari don’t know me” – Rahul Bose Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 2, 2006 - 05:45 IST

Offbeat movies, social activities and passion for Rugby – these are three basic things Rahul Bose is known for. His style and passion for acting has compelled him to endeavor his talent through his films.

Rahul Bose has an exclusive chat with IndiaFM on his forthcoming film Pyaar Ke Side Effects.

Tell us about PKSE
Pyaar Ke Side Effects is a romantic comedy. This is something that I have not tried before. I wanted to do a film like this as its script is one of the wittiest scripts. It’s a real dilemma of a guy who is in love but doesn’t want to commit.
PKSE is a real dilemma of a guy who is in love but doesn’t want to commit.

What is your role?
I am playing a DJ called Sid. He has a girlfriend but when it comes to marriage he gets panicky. He is very contemporary and modern guy.

You are playing DJ for the first time.
Yes, it’s not something that I have tried earlier. I had to do some basic preparation on how a DJ has to be. But then as an actor I wanted to try something that interests me. This is a romantic comedy that I have not attempted earlier.

I never had any preconception about any actor and not for Mallika too.
What was your reaction when you got to know that Mallika Sherawat was paired opposite you? It’s touted to be one unusual pairing. I never had any preconception about any actor and not for Mallika too. I have not worked with her earlier but we attended a workshop before we shot for PKSE. And off course I like working with someone who is hardworking, interactive and has a flair for comedy.

It was reported that when you saw Mallika in a red dress you were spellbound... practically half the nation has a crush on her? Did u have one too? I have been misquoted by some media people. Those who think that I can get spellbound by a girl in red dress or sari don’t know Rahul Bose. I am a complete no nonsense guy. In fact I was never apprehensive about my and Mallika’s pairing just because she is taller than me. I had reacted exactly opposite to what was written about me.

I don’t like my character in this film because I feel marriage is a great institution that we have in our society.
Does this character resemble to you in real life?
Not at all, I am unlike Sid. He is the one who is in love but thinks that marriage is not for him. He gets panicky about marriage. I don’t like him because I feel marriage is a great institution that we have in our society. I am not scared of marriage.

Do you have similar thoughts about marriage?
As I said earlier marriage is an institution. My thoughts about marriage are exactly opposite. I would like to choose someone with whom I can share my insecurities, secrets and with whom I can spend my life.

I would like to choose someone with whom I can share my insecurities, secrets and with whom I can spend my life.
How was it working with Mallika Sherawat? How was your rapport with her?
Mallika is a hardworking girl. She has flair of comedy, which was required for this film. She is down to earth person. We have a great onscreen chemistry. Similarly we got along well off-screen too.

Mallika and I have a great onscreen chemistry and we got along well off-screen too.
How is Saket as a director?
He is a good director. He has written the script of the movie. Being a writer and director he knows every important aspect of his film and its characters, as well. It was great working with him.

What are the other projects you are working on?
My forthcoming films include The Whisperers with Manoj Bajpai. This is a two man English film. My Bengali filmKaalpurush is ready for release. It’s a story of a middleclass family. I am playing a husband. He is a loser but he is a great father. His kids are his source of happiness. Then there’s a Hollywood project called Kerala. It’s a story of friendship between an Indian Malayali villager and a British plantation owner.

What kind of role attracts you as an actor?
My audiences feel that I am an intense actor, which is true. But then when they expect me to do intense role, I have come up with Pyaar Ke Side Effects which was least expected from me.

From your first film to PKSE what kind of growth you see in yourself as an actor?
As an actor I can’t say much but yes, as a human being, I see growth in me. I have become more hardworking and light-hearted. I don’t take my success and failure so seriously. I have become more focused about life and career as well.

You have been part of both commercial and offbeat cinema. What interests you more? I have done both and if you ask me to choose one then I would surely say it’s offbeat. That is my kind of cinema. Offbeat is something I always like. But that doesn’t mean commercial doesn’t interest me. Though I love offbeat cinema, I have done Jhankaar Beats, Chameli and Pyaar Ke Side Effects.
