R. Madhavan on food and fitness Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, July 15, 2006 - 00:45 IST

He played an Indian cook lost in the lanes of London in Ramji Londonwaley. And he loves to binge on food as much as he loved to serve it in his last Hindi flick. Here’s R.Madhavan talking on his favorite food and then what goes into burning those extra calories.

Thought on food
I am allergic to non-vegetarian food. I hate very spicy food and methi too. I am a huge fan of Pani-puri. It makes my mouth water. From my childhood days I’ve loved pani-puri and curd rice. My childhood memory is incomplete without the churan that was available outside our school. I always carry digestive biscuits. In my fridge you will always find curds. I binge on desserts. I let go of myself on Sundays. We eat out on Sundays, lunch as well as dinner. I love Indian desserts, especially rasgullas and rasmalai. I am also partial to gajar halwa, petha and black forest pastry. I round up the Sunday meal with a meetha paan. My mom is a very good cook. She makes excellent puliyogare (a South Indian rice dish).

Fitness mantra
I think health is the most important thing for every human being. So one must be aware about what his or her diet has to be. I give more preference to my health. I manage to see the rising sun. My day starts with Yoga. My breakfast includes fresh fruits and milk. I like brown bread, paneer sandwich, idlis or upma for breakfast. I am a hardcore vegetarian and strictly follow the protein diet. Lot of water, health drinks and protein shake is my energy. I don't believe in a strict diet regiment and supplements but in a good workout session. I work out an hour every day. I have gym at my place so I don't have to go out for it. It keeps me fit but yoga balances both body and mind. I prefer vegetables and rotis in lunch, less on carbohydrates. I don't go for a heavy lunch or dinner. I try and sleep as early as possible. Eat healthy and stay healthy is a fitness mantra for me.
