What went behind Krrish’s look… Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 7, 2006 - 06:35 IST

The promos of Krrish are already on air and what everyone’s talking about is Hrithik Roshan’s look. Hrithik will be seen in four radically different looks. The main looks are that of an unpretentious simpleton and the other is when this very simpleton gets transformed into a super human being. The other looks include an older version of his Koi Mil Gaya character and a slightly glamorous avatar when he gets to Singapore.

Putting the entire look together was definitely a very tedious task. This time too, Hrithik stuck to his all-time favorite designer, Rocky S. And it took no less than six whole months for the entire look to be designed. Rocky was on board when the script was being written. A joint narration of the film was given to Hrithik, Priyanka and Rocky. The designer, who has done Hrithik’s clothes right from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, got down to work right from that first meeting. He had a number of idea. However, both Hrithik and Rocky didn’t approve of any of those drafts created in that first meeting.

Soon work began. In the first look, the brief was that Hrithik was a simpleton. Yet he had to be a good looking simpleton. They experimented with different styles of pants till salwars were zeroed in on. For the tops, they needed an outfit which would show his toned body as well as keep him warm. In order to make the look more earthy and rugged, the clothes were dyed.

In the film, his character goes from a small town to Singapore. So instead of just buying imported clothes, they decided to create a signature style for the character. He will be seen wearing clothes with an Oriental touch. The third look which was just the older version of his Koi Mil Gaya character, was quite simple, since they just had to use make up which would make him look old.

The last look which is when Hrithik becomes a superhero was the toughest. A lot of detailing went into it and it took a whole lot of time. The overcoat which Hrithik sports in the film took six months to be completed! It had to be flexible since Hrithik had to perform a lot of stunts in those very clothes. Thirty designs were made and then rejected till the final one was chosen. It is made of the material PVC and had to have the right amount of sheen.

And of course we can’t forget the mask. Rocky took the help of a professional from Pune who tried every material from wax to rubber to steel for this mask! Finally a wax mask coated with rubber was decided upon! Eighty of the masks were created, since they would break easily due to the wear and tear of the shootings.

So it was definitely a mind-boggling task, to design the entire image! And with all the hard work that was put in, we’re sure it’ll be worth a look!
