“I almost felt as if I had written Othello …only 400 years ago” – Vishal Bharadwaj

‘What’s in a name’ said William Shakespeare. Quite a lot when it comes to the cinematic adaptation of his classic literature Othello! That’s because, as we all are aware by now, the film has got its final title as Omkara. That’s the name of the character played by Ajay Devgan in the film.
Another actor who’s making quite a buzz for this film is Saif Ali Khan who is playing a negative character named Eshwar Tyagi. In the film he is referred as Langda Tyagi due to his limp. His character will showcase shades of jealousy and insecurity.
Meanwhile director Vishal Bharadwaj who also sought inspiration from Shakespeare for his last film Maqbool (adapted from Macbeth says, "I had no fascination for Shakespeare. I was introduced to the master very late during my research for Makdee”

Vishal Bharadwaj admits that Omkara is fundamentally based on Othello but he clarifies, “I took only the masterline from Othello and sketched it from there on my own. I almost felt as if I had written it …only 400 years ago."
