“Tom Dick and Harry is looking interesting and funny but is on the slapstick kind of humor. Pyare Mohan is totally different.” - Fardeen Khan Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, April 21, 2006 - 03:06 IST

Fardeen Khan is playing a blind character in Pyare Mohan. According to him comedy is a difficult task especially when you are playing a physically disabled character. According to him No Entry tickled comedy side of his and now he enjoys rather finds himself comfortable in comedy films. Fardeen talks to IndiaFM about Pyare Mohan.

Pyare Mohan sounds like a laugh riot and a feel good comedy
Yes it is. It's a very enduring story. Essentially about these two characters and their search for love and their quest for love. The characters are very enduring as well. They are very positive in spite of having physical disabilities. I am playing blind and Vivek is deaf but in spite of that they are very positive characters. They try and live life normally as far as possible. They try and do all the things like normal people, which is very interesting. They have to work as a team in order to do all these things and incase something goes wrong in their co-ordination then all may go wrong.

You are playing a blind person. How easy was it for you to portray a blind character and balancing the right timing of comedy?
Yes that was interesting because I can't see and he can't hear so when he is sitting next to me then I have to tap him first to turn him around so he can see me. He reads my lips and that's how he can understand what I am saying. Consequently quite a few times that co-ordination didn't happen in the beginning. He had to read my lips and then had to react accordingly but unfortunately it didn't happen when we started (laughs)

How did you prepare for your character?
It was extremely challenging. We did a workshop before we started. We did basic research in terms of watching films which definitely helps us a lot. While the other challenging aspect is that there is a lot of action in this film so I had to maintain that blindness and action in mind which was quite difficult.

How is Indra Kumar as a director?
He is brilliant. He has this ability to relax his actor. He spoils them. He works with the actors. He is very open to suggestions and used to discuss scenes with all of us. In fact we used to have discussions about how we are going to play a specific scene which is really great. It was a wonderful experience with him.

Tell us about funny incidents during the shooting Pyare Mohan
There was loads of fun. It's a light film so definitely everyone was in a playful light mood. We played lot of pranks and jokes. It was fun working with all of them.

You portrayed the stuntmen tell us some thing about that
That's the flashback story in the picture. Pyare and Mohan play stuntmen at some point of their life and while doing stunts an accident happens because of which Pyare loses his eye sight and Mohan loses his hearing. But that helps in terms of all the things we do in the movie.

How was it working with Vivek Oberoi?
It's been great experience working with him. I met his before this film too but socially. I didn't know him personally. It's fun getting to know him. He is a through professional. It was very important to be friends before we portray these characters then the chemistry reflects between us and it worked out well.

How was it working with Esha Doel?
I think she has a great screen presence. She is extremely talented and a fabulous dancer. We are friends and enjoyed every minute working with her. We are doing our next film together and hopefully we will do another after that. She is extremely co-operative as a co-actor. She is very chilled out person and has a great sense of humor too.

Do you think it's easy to make the audience laugh?
When I did No Entry my character was really different. I couldn't see myself in that role but then Boney Kapoor, Anees Bazmee and Anil Kapoor convinced me. No Entry explored a comic side of me. And now the fact is I enjoy doing comedy. Comedy is as someone said is 'a very serious business'. It's probably the toughest of the entire different genre.

Now don't you think you are getting comedy roles only?
No I don't think so. I have played all kinds of roles but this is only by accident that my last three movies were comedy films No Entry, Shaadi No. 1 and Pyare Mohan. I feel Pyare Mohan has comedy scenes in the movie but cannot be called a total comedy movie as compared to Masti. This is romantic comedy. Characters have a certain depth. They have a purpose and it's not just to make people laugh but there is a strong message associated with it.

Tell us something about the music of the film
It's by my good friend Anu Mallik. As usual he has come up with some catchy tunes. I have done quite a many films with him and it was pleasure to dance and enjoy his tunes. He always keeps the characters in mind and works on it. Music is doing well so far. Hope it will do better.

Boman Irani is playing a negative role for the first time. Tell us something about it
He is fantastic. I really enjoyed working with him. Unfortunately an accident happened during the making of this movie, which was quite tragic for me. But he is just funny in his get up and very humorous too. He is not a bad guy but somewhere his intentions are bad.

Pyare Mohan and Tom Dick and Harry seem to have similar storylines. Don't you think there will be comparison between the two?
I really don't know Tom Dick and Harry but yes I have been told that they have three characters in it playing blind deaf and mute. But I don't think it could be similar to Pyare Mohan in anyway. Besides the characters, even the story of Pyare Mohan has a romance angle and is not just a comedy. Tom Dick and Harry is looking interesting and funny but is on the slapstick kind of humor. Pyare Mohan is totally different.

What is the USP of Pyare Mohan?
Its story and its characters!
