He is Harry, a dumb guy from Deepak Tijori's forthcoming comic flick Tom, Dick and Harry. After a serious role in Yahaan Jimmy Shergill will be seen playing a funny mute character in his next film. This mischievous actor feels that off screen fun and rapport with co-stars creates a magic on screen. Jimmy shares his experience and funny moments of Tom Dick and Harry with IndiaFM.
Humor attracted me
Tom Dick and Harry is about three unusual characters. It's a complete entertaining film. However, the humor was something that appealed to my mind. It's a comedy and the characters fascinated me. Its freshness is in the concept of blind, dumb and deaf together. I think it's a laugh riot.
No dialogues for me.
After lot of discussions they sent the dialogue script at my place. I told them I am playing dumb and I don't have any dialogues. I didn't want the script for the first time in my life and I didn't use the script. I wanted to enjoy that fact. (He laughs) Deepak gave me a full narration. First we got a narration. Then we got a detailed narration of dialogues and we laughed like mad after that. There was something at the back of my mind. There were two - three months for this movie to start and I wondered how I would do it. Le to liya hai panga lekin karega kaun? But then Deepak was very confident. He said Jimmy don't worry. I told him that it's damn difficult. How will I do it without any dialogues or script? Either you I will come out as a complete looser in the film or the character will look dumb as he didn't have any dialogues.
Deepak as a director
He is a fantastic director. I think every director should be an actor first. It helps a lot. You tend to understand through his face that if there is any problem or anything, only an actor can understand. I had never seen him tensed or shouting at anyone. He used to be calm and peaceful on sets. Sometimes he couldn't even control himself and used to laugh during scenes. There were no retakes. It was only when there was any problem in timing. But soon more or less a rhythm was set. Then there was no problem as such.

We took a lot of panga with Anuj
I got along with both Dino and Anuj. We had a lot of fun on sets. Anuj is an intense guy and he is playing blind. Dino and I played a lot of pranks on Anuj. I didn't have any dialogues so I used to observe him.
Anuj is the innocent one among us. And once he got into his character then he was totally blind. We used to take advantage of that. When we were shooting in a fort for a scene, where he is drinking water, we exchanged his glass of water for Vodka. Anuj didn't realize first. When he came to know, he cut the scene. And he got scolded by Deepak. Anuj cried “Why don't you understand that somebody put alcohol in my glass?” Deepak just started laughing. He said you should not cut the shot no matter what. After the rehearsal, he removed all the bottles from the bar. The next time Dino brought a glass from somewhere, Anuj couldn't afford to cut the scene! He had to have the whole thing.
Celina had coffee mixed with tequila
Like Anuj, we played the same prank with Celina. Poor girl didn't even realize our plan. But this time we used Tequila. None of them knew. We didn't even tell anyone. It was just at the last minute that I told Dino about it. However, in that scene I give coffee to Celina who is not in a good frame of mind. And it happened exactly the way we wanted. I gave a cup of coffee to her and she had it. After having it she gave the kind of expressions that Deepak exactly wanted. We mixed tequila with coffee. (laughs)
Improvisation of a role
It was fun shooting for this film. All of us had a good time together. I think such work atmosphere helps the actors to play their roles more defiantly. It was so much of fun I can never forget. We laughed on everyone, played pranks. There was a lot of improvisation in my character.
Growth as an actor
Definitely there is a lot of growth as an actor. But how much, I will come to know only when I work with Gulzar Saab because I started my career with his film. So I have to work with him again to get an idea about my growth as an actor.
Forthcoming films
After this there is Naseer's film Yun Hota To Kya Hota opposite Konkana Sen. Then there is one tentatively titled film called Khaffa, where I am playing a police officer opposite Kim Sharma. It's not a love story, but quite an unusual story. There is one with Vidhu Vinod Chopra Eklavya and Onir's Bas Ek Pal. There is a Punjabi film called Mannat opposite new comer Kulraj Kaur. There is movie called Delhi Heights opposite actress Neha Dhupia. It's a love story with the backdrop of Delhi. Then there is Anand Rai's untitled film.
