Holi, the festival of colors, has always been special in Bollywood. It has always had a huge fan-following in the Hindi film industry. Be it the Bachchan Holi bashes or the one-time famous Raj Kapoor’s R.K.Studio celebrations. This year too the industry is all geared to drench in the festival. However there are a few exceptions. Actress Koena Mitra and Tanushree Dutta to be precise! The common connection between the two being that both are Bengalis. And both like to stay away from colors for their own reasons.
Musafir girl Koena loves the festival, but she does not like to indulge in the game of colors. She believes in celebrating it differently. Koena chooses to sit at home and chill out with her friends. She has already planned her day, which will have good food, drinks, music and masti except colors. She does not like to play with colors as the actress has a phobia about Holi. She reminisces, “When I was nine years old, my dad almost lost his eye because of the color that someone rubbed on his face. He had to be hospitalized and he never completely recovered the sight in his left eye. After that, I have never really played Holi”.
However, Tanushree who is busy in shooting on the day of Holi believes that playing Holi has become another excuse for eve-teasing. She plays whenever her close friends and relatives come over to her place. But she avoids going out in the public. “I used to play Holi a lot, as a child. It used to be one of my favorite festivals. But one day on Holi when I was traveling in a train as a teenager, someone threw a water balloon through the window, which hit me on the eyes. I could not see for two days after that and the incident puts me off”, says the ex-Miss India. Though Tanushree is not in favor of playing with colors she loves relish on the mithai and dishes related to the festival.
Another common element between the Bengali babes – both Koena and Tanushree prefer coconut oil that protects skin and hair from the side effects or direct damage caused by the Holi colors.
