Leo Tolstoy once said “All happy families resemble one another, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way”. This line in Saif Ali Khan's voice opens the trailer of 'Being Cyrus' - a film revolving around a Parsi family and talking about their happy and quirky moments.

This Parsi family comprises of Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Boman Irani and Simone Singh. Saif Ali Khan, who also plays a Parsi, comes in as a paying guest to this family. With Naseruddin Shah having flawlessly portrayed Parsi characters earlier, in films like Pestonjee and Encounter - The Killing and Boman Irani who actually happens to be a Parsi, the casting couldn't have been more convincing. The costumes and art design add credibility to the other characters as well.

“Hi, I am Cyrus”, says Saif as he introduces his character in the film. Interestingly this happens to be the first English film of the now globally popular Saif. The ambience at the start is cool-n-light with Dimple adjusting her blouse to flirt with Saif, Naseeruddin emerging from well and Boman shouting at the peak of his vocal chords. They go on to live and love each other in a funny sort of way.

But then suddenly the setting turns grave when the frame captures Saif immersed in a bathtub with the water crossing his nose level. An elder member of the family makes a philosophical statement saying, “Once the game is over the king and the pawn go back into the same box”.

A certain level of mystery seeps into the proceedings. Commotion and confusion follows adding to the viewer's curiosity factor. That's until Saif ends the trailer with a checkmate to his opponent in the game of chess. The last frame shows a hand resting on a window pane with blood dripping from its slit wrist. Your inquisitiveness about the film just rises.

Earlier titled Akoori (meaning scrambled eggs), Being Cyrus is a slick thriller directed by debutante Homi Adajania. Shot in a single schedule in Panchgani, the movie has been making rounds of many a film festival and has won rave reviews for treating a complex subject with impressive simplicity. Boasting of a seasoned star-cast, the movie will release to the Indian audience on March 24.
