Action heroes, popcorn flicks, romantic rajas, gritty gores, macho men, thriller teasers, Anil Kapoor has lasted them all and more importantly, rather successfully. We recently met up with the star to know his take on the current Bollywood scene and this is what he had to say, “We are going through an interesting phase. There is a lot of cinema that is being experimented. Most of it is trash, I agree but the important thing is that we keep trying, only then does a Lagaan happen or a Dil Chahta Hai for that matter” he points out.
And what's his word on the actors around? “I think everyone's doing their job. It's heartening to see Mr.Bachchan do a Black at 60 plus. Aamir does some great work too” he paused. And the heroines, we asked curiously. What does the actor who did a commendable part of his work with Madhuri & Sridevi and Juhi think of the current lot of heroines? “Well, to be honest with you, I think there is a dent in there. We certainly need more talent, more faces. I think there is no need for a glam girl like Madhuri, what we need is a Shabana Azmi” he tells us and continues, “The depth, intensity and spark of a Shabana is clearly missing. I think a girl with 70 % of Shabana's talent, & 30% of Madhuri's glamour could make the Next Big Thing!” states.
So we no one from the current lot fits the bill? “I think Rani is hugely talented, I see the potential in her. If she keeps going at it, I am sure she can come up with great stuff!” he ends on a positive note.
So girls, you now know the formulae for success, 70% Shabana + 30% Madhuri = Superstar
