Earlier it was Shahrukh, then Akshay and now John. Bachchan's current onscreen son (for close to 4 films) is only too glad for having co-starred with the cine-czar. “Mr.Bachchan is truly one of his kind” the Bollywood hunk starts off. “If you wanna stick around in this industry for even half as long as he has, Big B and his professionalism is the way to go!” John observes.
So how was it when he started out, his first film with the talent tower? “I think it was incredibly kind of him too accept to work with a rank rookie in Aetbaar. I am thoroughly convinced that Mr.Bachchan is very supportive of me. And when I tell his to people, they are usually perplexed, just the way you are reacting now” he takes a quite dig at us.
And why does he say that? we ask. “Well, it isn't like he goes around pushing my name to producers or heap praises about me, but in his own quite way, Amitji has supported me by way of accepting to work in the films starring me. It is a very comforting thought to know that the leading man of Bollywood believes in you and endorses you by way of talent” he rallies.
“I remember him telling me, 'John, you are not the conventional hero. Maintain that edge and you'll go a long way'. That was very reassuring. And now he is teaming with the granddad of cinema in more that one film huh? “Yes! I started off playing a villain in Aetbaar, he polishes me off in the end in that one” John smiles.
“I am now playing his son in Mahesh's Viruddh. There is…” Before you go on, how does the father-son pair come across in Viruddh? we interject. “Fabulous! The way the character has been sketched along with Amit sir's portrayal of the role, is simply great. I never knew screen dad's could be so cool!' the Dhoom dude exclaims. Your list is incomplete, we tell him. “Yeah, after Viruddh, Babul is next. I am also doing a Gaurang Doshi film with him. So you can now say that I am Mr.Bachchan's unauthorized adopted son!” he gives us a dimpled smile.
Bunty, what do you have to say to that.
